Master of Cuban Big Band, June 13, 2000

How can I accurately describe the music of Arsenio Rodriguez? Simply put, he was the Count Basie of Cuban big band in the 1940s and 1950s. A master of the Cuban tres (a type of guitar) Rodriguez' bands were brash, sensual, and (most of all) fun. Reuben Gonzalez, now of Buena Vista Social Club fame, was one of Arsenio's painists. If you're interested in 20th century Cuban music, this is an essential addition to any "serious" collection.
