Starred Review. Neuman, a rabbi and licensed psychotherapist (The Truth about Cheating) offers an enjoyable guide full of helpful tips for couples to get their relationship back on track. Careers, child-rearing, and economic uncertainty take their toll on marital passions, but Neuman wants to guide husband and wife back to the honeymoon period, and with clever ideas like "Turn Back Time Night," where old haunts from their early dates are revisited, he should have some success (critically, these nights call for zero talk of the big trifecta of troubles: work; money; kids). The author doesn't limit his advice on comportment to retro date nights, however, and delves into the touchy topic of marital sex with great alacrity. In fact the majority of his book tackles sexuality, and Neuman doesn't mince words. He even confides that both "husbands and wives complain that their partner doesn't come prepared for sex with a cleanliness quotient that works for both of them. There is nothing wrong with asking for or being asked to clean up before sex." Anyone armed with this brave book—and a good shower—should be able to bring the mojo back to the marriage. (Jan.) I had been anticipating this book's release since seeing M. Gary Neuman on Oprah a couple of years ago. The author suggests in the book that husbands should read this book in an effort to save their marriages. A man would never read this book based on the title. Nor does the title reflect what the book is about at its core: Women who were unfaithful in their marriages. I think had he titled the book: "Why Your Wife Is Cheating On You & What You Can Do About It" it would have opened a lot more eyes and sold a lot more copies.
Other than that, its a good book. I really think men DO need to read this book. As Rabbi Neuman points out, 39% of women surveyed have cheated in their marriages. This isn't just a man's game anymore. If men think that they are immune to this, they need to take a closer look at their relationships. It can happen to anyone who isn't paying attention.
This book was so insightful and I really learned a lot about myself and the way men and women think about things differently. I would highly recommend for a healthy relationship as well as one in need of some assistance.
This is EXACTLY what I have been try to tell my husband. I am hopeful in reading this and feel like this book is talking to me. It is saying exactly what I am feeling. I've finished it in three hours and have bought a hard copy for my husband. It's marriage from the woman's perspective. Lovingly put.
