Product Description

The Alcohol tester [Breathalyzer] is used by consumers to determine the blood alcohol concentration in seconds by measuring alcohol in the breath. Using Pocket Breathalyzer: Insert 2 AAA batteries (included). Depress button on the side and leave depressed for the entire test in order to test blood alcohol content (BAC). The green light will flash for 5-7 seconds, when it stops flashing and stays green, it is ready for testing. Exhale into the sensor at the top for 3 second and test results occur in 5 seconds. You do not need to touch the sensor with your mouth or nose. A yellow light indicates a BAC of .04% to .08%. A red light indicates a BAC of greater than .08%. For additional tests, you must wait 15 seconds for the sensor to be ready again.

Finally got to try this item out when my wife and I did some bar hopping a couple of weeks ago. We delayed our drive home until the device gave us the all clear. Of course the big question is whether the readings were accurate and without a calibrated reference device on hand, this currently remains unanswered. Indirect evidence (our known consumption rate, body weight, and subjective feelings) suggested the device was in the ballpark. Since I do have access to a more accurate (and far more expensive) tester at work, I may attempt some experiments and will report back the findings here.

The device is very easy to carry around and is quite unobtrusive. Glancing at it, one would assume it is just a keyless entry. And it is definitely at a good price point. Since these type of devices are a great aid in being a responsible drinker of alcohol, it would likely benefit society at large if their use became common. It should be remembered, however, that one can still be cited in most places while driving when BAC is above zero even if the levels don't reach the most serious DWI/DUI standards so having a designated driver still remains the best option.

This little gizmo really does work. It seems to be pretty accurate, too, although it's tough to tell.
You need to give it a good strong blow to get enough air through the little opening to get a good reading. I've tried using a straw to direct the air better and that seems to work. Unfortunately, there's no sensor that lets you know when it has enough air to take a reading. If there's not enough it just stays green even if there is alcohol present in your breath. Still, for the price it's pretty darned impressive.
You'll need to experiment a bit because the instructions aren't very accurate.

I would not trust any device, as far as drinking and driving. However this little tester really does work. I drank one Vodka drink and the tester gave me a yellow light. Red is the next level up.

I tried everything i.e. brushing my teeth, eating candy, even drinking milk. No fooling this tester. The light remained yellow.

Best advice don't drink and drive! duh! I don't think the CHP would let you off the hook, if you told he or she that your tester said it was ok to drive.
