This item was given as a gift for Christmas '13 to our 3.5 year old son. It's an elegantly designed game that is well made as all the pieces are wood. Although it is made in China, it doesn't feel cheap or toxic. The colors are bright and vibrant and capture your attention. I like it because it isn't electronic; it harkens back to the days when games were meant to be played with others and not before a flickering screen. The game makes you think, design, and plan. Maybe it's just our son (we like to think he's above average), but this toy has kept him and his older sister occupied for hours. They have built beautiful underwater reefs with elegant designs all while having fun. They have made a game out of sharing the pieces--they have traded each other grasses for fish, turtles for starfish, etc. it's been hilarious to listen to them negotiate the poker-chip sized wooden pieces as they build their respective designs. Although Connectagons Under-The-Sea is recommended for ages 4 and up, I have no issues allowing a 3 year to play with it under supervision.

I wish HearthSong would add one thing to this toy. On the outside of the box where they show pictures of all the pieces, I would love it if they included the names of the aquatic creatures. As a parent, I love teaching my child new words and concepts. Imagine asking them to pass you the "anemone" and hearing them respond that they only have a "star fish." For an even added adventure, include the names in Latin. I would love it!!!

In conclusion, the game builds the mind and builds relations. Building a beautiful design is tertiary to everything else.

This game is exclusive to HearthSong.
