About the Author

The writer, Thelma Russell is a Chicago native that has written her first book about finding friendship, love, and marriage using Internet dating. She has since relocated to the Washington D.C. Metro area. Russell spent three years and long hours researching specifically designed websites that are aimed toward African American singles. Russell is completing her first novel; Aint' Nothing Like the Real Thing, due out by January 2007. Just in time for Valentine's Day. Russell has been a former elected official, a community activist and she also graduated in 2001 with her Bachelors Degree from Governors State University in Communications. "It had become increasingly frustrating as I sought a long-term relationship with quality single black men. I wondered if I would ever come across him. Of course, everyone wants to find a special friend, love and have romance in their lives. I hoped that the Internet would provide another alternative helping "him" find me thus becoming his one-true love," Russell comments. The author prides herself on having provided a uniquely open-minded book that has never been more honest, direct, and helpful about finding love on the Internet for singles of color. Russell quickly dispels the rumors, fears and taboos about finding Mr. Right or Ms. Right "online." This book spells out the marketing tools that singles will need so that they too will have a positive experience--while they safely look for their one-true love on "the Net."

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Advice About Internet Dating for Black Singles, April 20, 2005
By
This review is from: The New Love Connection for African American Singles: A Complete Step-by-step Guide to Finding Friendship, Love and Marriage on "the Net" (Paperback)
This guide is the first one I've ever seen that will help African Americans. Its is thorough and covers many topics like Loving the Dotcom Man or Woman, The Technology of Online Dating, Online Sex, Chats and Email, A List of Positive Attributes, and 12-Quick Steps To Online Dating. This is the bomb? For people of color there has never been a book that addresses US. Russell even throws in Computer Terms to help the novice computer user. "What If We Want A Commitment" is a cute section that I found helpful and insightful. It tells you exactly what to expect and what to do after you've met the man or woman that you want to date. So I would recommend this book to my single African American girlfriends and I have many. Good how-to book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good start-up book!, January 6, 2006
By
This review is from: The New Love Connection for African American Singles: A Complete Step-by-step Guide to Finding Friendship, Love and Marriage on "the Net" (Paperback)
For the over-40 readers who are just getting into online dating, this book will tell you the do's and don't's of online dating. It will tell you about all of the web-sites that are African-American orientated. Ms. Russell had some good points about telling propective online daters to tell the truth when they describe themselves. Since there are more single Black women then there are single Black men, this book gives the propective online dater an edge in finding members of the opposite sex. Good reading.
