History at it's most Engaging,
This review is from: Connections 3: 5 Pack [VHS] (VHS Tape)
James Burke's Connections is one of the finest history lessons imaginable. I saw the first series in a college class and was facinated by the way he presented the history of the world, through invention and discovery, going from point A to point Z and filling in every step in between. Connections 3 continues the fine tradition he began in the previous series. Just when you thought he couldn't surprise you again with his historical corelations, he does. And in the most amazing ways. Highly reccomended for students of history that lack patience. Burke brings it to life the way my profs could not!

I cannot describe the degree to which I become fully engrossed in "Connections" by the esteemed James Burke. It is fascinating, his wit and delivery of these lessons of history. It truley is the best entertainment I have experienced on the television. There is nothing I would rather watch than Connections -- I just wish Connections and Connections: 2 were out on tape. I've watched this 5-set pack so many times that the tapes are wearing out. (I've found that an evening with Kung Pao chicken and white wine while watching Connections: 3 is truly sublime.)

James Burke is an absolute inspiration! He has unwound a few threads of history, and shows how science is woven into the very fabric of our socity. Connections, Connections2, Connections3, and The Day The Universe Changed are undoubtedly the finest examples of educational entertainment (or is that entertaining education?).Not only do I recommend the repeated viewing of these videos, I plan to watch them with my child as he grows through childhood. More informative then NOVA; more engaging then National Geographic. I think it a shame they're no longer being rerun by any of the cable stations in my area.
