4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent survey of Psychology's History, April 5, 2011
By
I am continually amazed that reviewers cannot distinguish between reviewing a book and reviewing the condition a book might have been in when it arrived after shipment. A previous review of Thorne and Henley gave this text a two-star rating because of physical defects in shipment. The reviewer fails to actually review the book which is one of the better history and systems of psychology texts for use in the college classroom. I make this evaluation on the basis of having taught an upper division undergraduate course twice with this text: it has a superior integration of major figures in psychology's history and what they actually contributed in advancing the field. For many student who might be preparing for the GRE subject exam in psychology, this text would be an excellent way of reviewing a vast range of important materials in psychology. The writing is fluent and persuasive. I suspect that most readers of this text -- whether faculty or student -- will find it a solid source to understand the multiple ways the concepts of psychology are interconnected.

2.0 out of 5 stars not exactly what i expected, January 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The book is as described in the description. However I didn't expect it to be so marked up and the edges so battered. I feel like this book is suffering from old age. On the bright side, I can still read the text, its just that the excessive highlighting is a little distracting.
