Big disappointment,
By Ellen (New Jersey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Connie Francis - Where the Boys Are: 24 Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
If you are looking for a compilation of her original hits, this is not the one for you. These are not the originals; they were recorded in 1989. She didn't change things much and her voice is still strong, but her whining has become more pronounced. I was hoping to hear the songs as they were originally recorded, but was greatly disappointed.

I wish I had read the reviews on this CD before I purchased it. I, too, was very disappointed because I wanted original recordings. On most of the songs, it's apparent they tried to re-create the song like the original, but some of my favorites were quite far from the original.

Great turn around order time. Everything as advertised from service standpoint. I have an upper end JVC head unit & great sound system - sound on this CD is scratchy/crackly - not near the quality I normally hear

Reissues of Connie Francis hits are becoming a way of life but please, this is not a reissue of her original hits--it is her Malaco recordings from 1989 of WHERE THE HITS ARE. This too has been reissued to death. There is no end of great Connie Francis material to be released. Amercia look at Japan and South Africa for example. This is as bad as Bush trying to cover up phone tapping. But as I have said before, any Connie Francis product is better than none. How about being a little more original in the future. Take a chance! Her "Souvenirs" and "Italian Collections" were a bold step for this country and the results were fantastic. They're still in print. So Polydor/Universal get your feet wet, the water isn't that cold. You might be very surprised. We're waiting.

I do not know how anyone could sell this thing...it sounds like she is singing inside of a tunnel, very poor quality. Connie Francis was amazing and all this does it make her sound winey and tinny. Yuk!!

To some degree I agree with other reviews. I thought theses would be original recordings, but they are not.
That said, I love this album! In some ways even more than I would have the originals. I love Connie Francis - wish I could meet her someday - and this is a very good redo of her original hits. I saw another of my heros last Summer in concert and he BUTCHERED the songs everyone came to see. People got up and left. Anyway - Connie did not do that... she sang the songs well, and I for one am VERY pleased.

It's almost axiomatic; if you find all of the HITS on one compilation, they will be re-records. Odd that there is no shortage of compilations by Connie Francis WITHOUT her known hits but rather songs that show a different side of her. This is a worthy effort though and I still enjoy my favorites, "A Second Hand Love" and "Together". Until something better comes along (don't hold your breath), I'm recommending this package. If you remember her many hits, you'll have to be happy with this came-close package for now.

Connie Is Always the Best,

Connie has been in music business since she was 3 yrs old and is still terrific. Her incomparable voice quality never fades. Her No. 1 hit Where the Boys Are is sung with precision notes her voice can sharply produce. Many of her songs are best-seller and many are on this album. However, there are some lesser known hits like The Wedding Cake, Someone Else's Boy or It Happened Last Night sold like pan cakes when they were released decades ago. This album is a must for Connie's fans. And also, they should go for the numbers mentioned.
