The first two Connie Smith albums put into one CD!!! How lucky can anyone get! This collection shows why Connie knows no peer when it comes to country music. She is the real thing and next to Patsy Cline, the best female singer in country music. Her peers even confirm this! What a voice!! This is what REAL COUNTRY MUSIC is, not the makeshift, bubblegum pap we're subjected to these days (which I won't listen to at all). I know everyone has different tastes in music but it escapes me why this type of music isn't appreciated more and given the respect that its due. At least with this collection (of which there are no filler songs in the bunch), Connie Smith represents a genre which I'm afraid is long gone and we'll not see again. But she is a perfect reminder of what REAL COUNTRY MUSIC IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE!

Connie delivers and great as she always does. Every country music fan should have this album in his/her collection. Even if you have the 'Essential Connie Smith' Cd of her (like I do) this is a great CD to get. It has many songs that don't appear on the Essential. Treat yourself and enjoy one of the best voices and one of the finest ladies (in the history) of country music.

Connie Smith is, to me, the greatest female country singer.

The early recordings have a freshness and liveliness. I love them! Her voice is so strong and pure.

"Tiny Blue Transistor" is what you'd call "bubble gum" country, it's unique in the genre. And, this collection includes the classic track: "Once a Day". But, as you will see when you've listened to these two albums, there's much more to Miss Smith than "Once a Day"!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Soul Of Country Music..., March 25, 2011

This review is from: Connie Smith/Cute N Country (Audio CD)
Some songs are written by Bill Anderson, Weldon Myrick takes the lead on steel, some of the smoothest, grinding steel you'll ever hear, the lady Connie Smith sings her heart out throughout this imported disc featuring Connie's first two albums, both recorded in 1965 for the R.C.A. label. The first recording I've ever had the pleasure of hearing Connie was the titled lp "Soul Of Country Music", a very accurate description of this pretty lady and her natural vocal abilities, stunningly filled with the utmost deepest emotion. Patsy Cline had the songs, the talent, Connie Smith carried her own talent, being able to take a mediocre song and changing it into a pleasurable listening experience, unfortunately, just not enough hits. This is country, the real deal, somewhere on the lines of the "bakersfield sound", although Smith was never labeled to this genre. There's never a dull or slow moment on this great country compilation...Connie Smith, a voice who could always tell it like it is, simply put "short and sweet", my favorite female country singer. The audio on this disc is almost perfect, and better on the second album, Cute N Country, worth every penny...also recommended is the All American Country compilation on the Collectables label, just to hear Connie's version of "Louisiana Man" is worth the while.
