5.0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST early Roger Corman Films!
I LOVE this movie. I've watched it so many times that I'm afraid I'm going to wear the tape out! (I wish it were available on DVD.) As an avid lover of Los Angeles and Hollywood in the 1950s, I'm particularly fond of all the location shoots in the "Hollywoodland" area (under the Hollywood sign), including the oft-oft-used Bronson Caves in Griffith Park. Top it off...

3.0 out of 5 stars DVD TREATMENT NEEDED FOR THIS FILM AND OTHERS!
One of my favorites as a kid, with a memorable monster. This is actually a good film with cheap FX. I don't understand why some of these old Sci-Fi films get passed over for DVD release. This film is certainly worthy with it's unforgettable cone shaped monster. There are a number of memorable old B movies and thrillers that have yet to get their due. Here is a list for...

As an avid lover of Los Angeles and Hollywood in the 1950s, I'm particularly fond of all the location shoots in the "Hollywoodland" area (under the Hollywood sign), including the oft-oft-used Bronson Caves in Griffith Park. Top it off with two old Studebakers, Lee Van Cleef as a mad scientist, the lovely and talented Beverly Garland, and a "Venusian" that looks like a giant Jello Mold with huge fangs, and you have a "winner" of the first order! You won't be disappointed!

This movie has it all bad acting, bad effects, and a fake rubber monster Venusian Zontar! This movie is freakin' awesome. It had me laughing out loud in certain parts but believe it or not, some of it actually made me think. The 50's fear of outsiders and non comformists projected on to the rubber alien. Very entertaining and you'll have a good time watching it. Dick Miller who is in other Roger Corman movies is in this one as a soldier (he was also in "Gremlins"). Lee Van Cleef plays the alien's human flunky (He was bad in "Good, the Bad and the Ugly"). Much better than Larry Buchanan's version because I love the 50's clothing, cars and Zontar is cooler looking. Believe it or not I watched this when I was a little kid and it freaked me out. I'm 27 yearsold I was five when I watched this. Now I just laugh at it. A masterpiece, buy it on VHS because its not on DVD what a crime.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best of the 50's!, December 12, 2005

Great dialouge and Lee Van CLeef's 'over confident' performance give us one of the best of the alien invader flicks of the 50's - even if the alien is stupid looking. The 'bat spy' deal was an excellent concept and was way ahead of it's time.

Readily available enough on DVD from collectors, there is no excuse not to be enjoying this one a coupla few times a year.

Let's get these 50's sci-fi/horror titles on DVD:

Quatermass Xperiment - all others in this series were released long ago
From Hell It Came - my favorite 'killer tree' movie!!
The Night the World Exploded
Beast With Five Fingers - Peter Lorre and a killer severed hand
Mutiny in Outer Space
Atomic Man
Atomic City - A 50's sci-fi that was actually nominated for Academy Award - Best Writing, Story and Screenplay!!
27th Day
Crack In The World - Awesome disaster flick about the Earth splitting in two!!
The Lost Missile
The Magnetic Monster - rarely seen Richard Carlson flick!!
Riders To The Stars - Richard Carlson again!!
Spacemaster X-7
On the Threshold of Space
FIVE
Island of Terror - Peter Cushing

Thank heavens for bootleggers as many of the above titles were never even released on VHS...

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheapnis, October 27, 2005
This review is from: It Conquered the World B&W (VHS Tape)
What else can be said of this movie: Frank Zappa wrote a song about the splendid story line and production values of this movie.

If you love monster movies, the cheaper the better, then you'll love this. Best viewed after listening to Cheapnis on FZ's Roxy and Elsewhere CD.

Like many others, I wish this was released on DVD.

This is a GREAT movie. Not necessarily as a great movie but as a really campy flick of the 50s. It's really great. Plus the monster looks like a giant cucumber, and it's craft a sunny-side up egg. Needless to say, this is a great movie. BUY!
