This is probably my favorite new album of the year. The talent and breadth of the band is astounding, and each time I listen to their music, I love it more than the last time through.

Particularly notable are:

Praise and Adore (a thoughtful and worshipful song)

Endless Day (very catchy tune)

Summer Song (Probably my new favorite love song)

Tale of the Dragon's Defeat (these lyrics will give you goose bumps)

The strings on the opener and closer of the album are gorgeous.

Highly recommended.

In the swarm of new bands and artists coming onto the Christian scene in 2007, some stood out while others drifted slowly into the mix. Tupelo, Mississippi rockers, Wavorly, burst onto the airwaves with the ultra popular song "Praise and Adore" showcasing early on their breakout debut. Since the band's 2001 start and previous name Freshmen 15, they have come a long way. The five members all had different likes and styles of music in which they clung to, from punk rock, metal core, indie, and pop. Their diverse influences created something that lead vocalist, Dave Stovall and bassist Matt Lott deemed "grander vision for what their music and purpose could be". Wavorly's debut, Conquering the Fear of Flight, was the creation that came from this talented group.

Conquering is an obvious rock album when you first give it a listen, but after a few tracks go by you understand that there is something more here. Aside from their smash radio hit, this whole record is chock full of power. Wavorly's gift of a combining mix of orchestra, slamming guitar rifts, and a bit of indie rock, produces a unique sound. Conquering starts out with an ensemble of string instruments, as if telling a story of passion, then blasts into the next track, "Madmen", as if the two songs were melted together. Thus showing off the band's will to rock. But they aren't done there. Drawing from the writings of C.S. Lewis, Wavorly blends the pioneer's words into the heart of the rock tracks "Part One" and "Endless Day". The lyrics are deep and genuine giving the listener plenty to ponder. On the track "Time I Understood", Stovall's vocals describe God's mission for us and how we are loved by Him, showing off their insight and meaning as a band. Keeping with the orchestra feel, the album gives tastes of a flowing musical background as it fades out on the last track "The Defeat".

Some reviewers throw out good reviews like cheap tootsie rolls at a parade, but every good review that Wavorly receives for Conquering the Fear of Flight they have whole-heartily worked hard for and deserved. With this being their first album I am looking forward to more from this band. Hopefully taking chances and putting passion into their music, as they have done here, Wavorly will continue to stay above getting lost in the mix.

This album wonderfully creates a mixture between Christian music and the obscurities of secular music. Introducing begins as a classical piece that is manipulated into rock and the album continues with these distortions of "typical" music genres into one another. It is a circular piece that ends where it begins in the musical sense.

Don't assume that if you've heard one song, you've heard them all. While this may be true for most bands, it is not so for Wavorly. And on one hand, this is a good thing. This band has so much depth it will make your head spin. There is not one bad song on the entire album. The problem is the lack of flow for this release. They jump from one style to another (and they do it well). It's just hard to fit this album to a particular mood.

Chances are good you'll enjoy every song on this release. Just don't be surprised if you don't enjoy them all at once.

Its one of my favorites!!! You can hear the C.S. Lewis influence throught the whole album. From the beautiful arrangements of the strings to the memorable guitar riffs alongside powerful lyrics this cd never gets old! Its inspiring yet you can still rock out to it full blast. One of my most prized cds.

Amazing, amazing, amazing. I can't say enough good things about Wavorly. They rock with the best of them, standing with the likes of "Red" "Underoath" and "This Beautiful Republic." I absolutely love this album, and can't wait to see what the band brings in the future.

Ever since this album came out, I have been hooked. The style of music they have is very interesting and fun to listen to. This is probably one of my favorite rock albums in my 6,000 song library. Not only is the singer's voice great, but the instruments and sounds that go along with it simply make for an artful and awesome experience to listen to. There are aso a few softer songs that I like and are catchy. If you're a fan of rock, definitely get this cd and you won't be dissapointed!

This is definitely one of the best CDs of the year (2007), and few CDs give me that feeling the first time I listen to them (and I listen to A LOT of music). It is easy to see that a lot of thought and effort went into making this album. I would place "Conquering the Fear of Flight" in a Christian rock/alternative/indie category. The CD stands out amongst others in its genre thanks to its thought-provoking lyrics and instrumental creativity. I love how the strings are incorporated into most of the CD to give it a fuller sound. There are lots of catchy guitar riffs and a nice variety of songs as well. The CD clocks in at about 50 minutes, which is a pretty generous amount of music these days. This is one new band I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for in the future.

I bought this album months ago on a whim and fell in love with it almost immediately. The lyrics are incredible (I couldn't put this away until I had them memorized), and the musicians obviously know what they're doing. But the best thing is, the wonderful first impression never faded. After all this time, it's still one of the best albums in my collection, and I love that I can play it straight through without having to skip around filler and/or junk.

I can't wait for more from this band.

I was extremely surprised by this CD. I had heard "Praise and Adore" and had read some reviews of the CD but I was surprised at the fresh new sound this band brings to Christian Rock. This whole album feels like a concept piece. Each song seems to pick up where the other left off. There is definitely a musical through line in this album and that just makes me love it even more. The musical interludes are perfectly placed and compliment the work as a whole.

This is definitely on my list of favorite CD's for the year. The more I listen to it the more I peel back the layers of meaning behind it. Even the radio-friendly "Praise and Adore" has the subtitle "Some Live Without It" reminding us that while we should praise and adore God we should also remember that there are people out there who don't and live without the life He offers. Contrast that with the "Tale of the Dragon's Defeat" which offers an edgier interpretation of the battle with the Enemy and you have an idea of this band's range. You go from uplifting worship to pure battle, much like the Christian life. I can't really pick a favorite because I'm still trying to unravel the songs and I'm enjoying the puzzle. I definitely recommend this CD to any Christian who likes modern bands like the Killers or Muse but this band is their own band and I can't wait to see what comes next. See you guys in Little Rock!
