5.0 out of 5 stars A Positive Approach to a Life Crisis
This book picks up where others leave off. It deals with the emotional pain, stress and anxiety that accompany infertility.
It covers topics such as how to cope in a fertile world, what to do when you're "mad at God", and dealing with friends and family.
The best part is that it offers techniques that not only help patients lower their stress levels,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Informative but too much of a marketing tool for author
After having read several books on infertility, I must say that this one was the one I liked the least. Although there were sections that were very informative, the author ended every other paragraph with, "if you come to my mind-body classes, you will get pregnant." This review is from: Conquering Infertility: Dr. Alice Domar's Mind/Body Guide to Enhancing Fertility and Coping With Infertility (Hardcover)
This book picks up where others leave off. It deals with the emotional pain, stress and anxiety that accompany infertility.
It covers topics such as how to cope in a fertile world, what to do when you're "mad at God", and dealing with friends and family.
The best part is that it offers techniques that not only help patients lower their stress levels, but may actually enhance their chances of pregnancy success. I have been an infertility nurse specialist for 12 years, and I think that this book fills a void that will truly enhance patient care. I believe it should be "required reading" for all infertility patients and their healthcare providers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ali does it again!, October 14, 2002

This review is from: Conquering Infertility: Dr. Alice Domar's Mind/Body Guide to Enhancing Fertility and Coping With Infertility (Hardcover)
This is a great book. For those who have read Healing Mind, Healthy Woman, some of the information in the first few chapters will be a review. These chapters in the new book, however, are specifically for women and couples with infertility concerns. Much of the rest of the information is new and/or "improved," with chapters on such topics as the couple relationship, dealing with family and friends, faith issues, what to do when treatment fails, and so on.
As a counselor who works with women and couples with infertility issues, I have found Domar's work to be incredibly helpful for me and for my clients. I have been recommending Healing Mind, Healthy Woman for some time; now I will also encourage my clients to get this new book as well. Domar's message of hope is such a positive one; she has many wise and encouraging words here. I would encourage anyone who is struggling with infertility, wherever you may be in your journey, to get this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, the emotional support I've been looking for!, November 26, 2005
By
My husband and I have been struggling with infertility for almost 3 years. I've read tons of books on the subject, but none of them addressed COPING with the emotional and marital stress like Conquering Infertility. For the first time I felt like someone out there understood what I was going through. Dr. Domar described all the emotions and feelings that I was struggling with - I cried with relief when I realized I wasn't crazy. When I read sections to my husband, he commented that the author must have been a fly on our wall. Her advice covers everything from coping with fertile friends and family, the effects infertility can have on your faith and religious beliefs, how to keep your marriage from crumbling under the pressure, how to physically handle the stress your body is under, and relaxation techniques to get you through the tough moments. It's all there. It even covers "what next?" What the options are out there beyond ART and IVF and how to know when you're ready to move on. If all the techno-medical books have left you cold, this is the must have resource for you. If you are lacking emotional support, you will find it in this thoughtfully written, compassionate book.

After having read several books on infertility, I must say that this one was the one I liked the least. Although there were sections that were very informative, the author ended every other paragraph with, "if you come to my mind-body classes, you will get pregnant." All of us who are going through this infertility rollercoaster, truly believe that going to our doctor, following his/her plan of treatment and doing only good things for ourselves, will bring a positive result. We don't need someone telling us that we should travel or look out for the next workshop in order to guarantee fertility. Too subjective and author had her own agenda which doesn't make for a positive experience. There are other books that can help you cope with infertility rather than tell you that what you're doing is wrong. Try Laugh-in Infertility. I could not stop laughing with this book and it made me feel better about my situation.

This review is from: Conquering Infertility: Dr. Alice Domar's Mind/Body Guide to Enhancing Fertility and Coping With Infertility (Hardcover)
What an incredible book. It is filled with tips, information, and advice for the woman facing infertility. It covers all aspects of the emotional struggle that women must cope with when they can't get pregnant--everything from advice on how to cope when everyone else but you gets pregnant, to information about how husbands and wives handle infertility in very different ways. It taught me so much. I also liked the clear, thorough descriptions of how to do relaxation exercises. And I loved reading the stories from real people who have coped with infertility. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is having trouble getting pregnant.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, April 26, 2003

I found this book to be very informative. There are two books that I would recommend to every person experiencing infertility. This one and the new book, What to Expect When You're NOT Expecting. ... I hope this review will make a difference and that's you'd read both books and be on your way to coping with infertility.

If you are looking for a book to give you a cure for infertility this is not the book for you. If you are looking for a book on how to deal with the emotional ups and downs of infertility this is the book. It teaches many relaxation techniques which are necessary when on the emotional rollercoaster of Infertility. It also gives great advice on how to cope with difficult situations like friends pregnancies, family, and the work environment. If you want to learn how to better handle infertility emotionally, this is the book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-read for anyone going through infertility, October 14, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Conquering Infertility: Dr. Alice Domar's Mind/Body Guide to Enhancing Fertility and Coping With Infertility (Hardcover)
This is a fantastic book, written by a doctor who has worked for over fifteen years with couples experiencing infertility. The tool box of things you can do to alleviate the stress that accompanies infertility not only helps women -- and couples -- during the struggle -- but are amazing life techniques as well. If you are going through this difficult problem -- READ THIS BOOK. You'll feel SO much better.

And, if you have the opportunity to join one of her programs at Boston IVF or at seminars she conducts around the country: run, don't walk!

5.0 out of 5 stars I had the 2002 version of this book..., July 3, 2007
I was looking through my past reviews and decided it was important for me to review this book in particular. Let me tell you that I remember breaking down crying (actually was doing a lot of that those days) reading this book. While it had practical advice mentioned in the book, the most important thing was that she UNDERSTOOD how I was feeling, even some feelings I had not had words to describe until I read this book. This book gave me hope and the courage to seek counseling from a doctor who specializes in infertility counseling. The year after I read this book, I finally had the strength to try one last round of IVF. This time we were successful, and now I have 2 beautiful 3 year olds.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read, June 1, 2004

This review is from: Conquering Infertility: Dr. Alice Domar's Mind/Body Guide to Enhancing Fertility and Coping With Infertility (Hardcover)
I have been going thru infertility for over 3 years now, I picked up this book and at first had an attitude with it, how dare she say I do all of these things and I'll get pregnant. Then a day or two later I remembered that I did do a mind/body program at our local hospital and I DID get pregnant with my next IVF cycle. (I did loose the baby at 11 weeks due to other medical problems). Not saying that this is the all in all answer, but I do believe that being in touch with your inner being is a good thing. I run a peer group infertility group and have recommended this to everyone.
