Excellent book!,

This review is from: Conquering the Mysteries and Lies of Grief (Paperback)
The advice this book provides to people who have suffered a loss is priceless. I found this open, honest approach to dealing with grief to be a must-read for everyone. Whether you have lost a loved one through death or divorce, this book will help you understand the many stages you experience.Ms Russell has created a unique book that readers will find comforting, as well as educational. Her many years of experience are evident in the knowledge and compassion that she conveys. Although this is a serious subject, the book is written with a touch of humor. Dealing with loss is a fact of life. We will all experience the confusion of grief one day. Having books such as this one, to be used as a resource, will offer answers to many questions. It is well written and easy to understand. It is written in such a way that even the most distracted reader, who may be drowning in grief, will be able to comprehend. However, it is just as useful for people who suffered a loss years ago and need to understand the behaviors and feelings they dealt with. (also the issues they might still be dealing with) Grief can send you into crisis, threatening your mental, physical and spiritual health. This book can help you adjust and take an active role in your own journey to understanding yourself and the others around you that think they are "helping." I highly recommend this book.

Book Review: by Kitty HoffmanConquering the Mysteries and Lies of Grief by Sherry Russell Deb Smith-Jones, the founder of Margaret Ann's Place in Kenosha, told me that this might be a very interesting little book. She was right on both counts. It was packed with The author blends her personal insight with quotes from the interviews she conducted. She pinpoints the differences between men and women and how they deal with grief. Early on she states that your grief is like a bridge that you must cross from what used to be to what now exists. That trip isn't fast or easy, but it must be taken in order to feel Chapter Eight is her Exercise in Truth. It offers a list of questions to analyze your relationship with the one who died as well as those around you. She also touches on family dynamics and the need to work together on the new reality you face. And the last chapter of Sherry Russell's book offers some Pain Relievers and hope - two things I know we all long for. This is definitely a book I would recommend.

Quality information offering clear and concise choices,
By Ron G. (San Francisco, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Conquering the Mysteries and Lies of Grief (Paperback)
Conquering the Mysteries and Lies of Grief has an energy to it. One that makes you want to help yourself and others to "conquer" the grief that can ruin your life. The author lays out the reason and concepts behind professional thinkings on grief. She writes about her interviews to help you see you are not alone in your confusion. The most important element to this book was it didn't tell you what you should do or make you feel judged in any way. It provides a variety of ways to help yourself or someone else in grief. Very good!

Thanks for this special book.,

I have read many books on this subject. This one was given to me by a doctor friend who wanted my honest opinion since he was recommending it to several of his patients. I read the book in two sittings. It kept my interest which is hard to do and it reminded me that I had not dealt with several issues in my own life. One reason I would recommend this book is the writing style. Ms. Russell writes with emotion. It really feels like she is talking directly with you. Her sense of humor and love of life comes through her writing. I found this to be rather inspirational and direct. Another reason I'd recommend her book is the reasoning power of it all. Ms. Russell clearly defines why no one should ever expect their grief to be the same as anyone else's grief. Great book and I will recommend it.

Midwest Book Review - loving guide to living with grief/loss,

This review is from: Conquering the Mysteries and Lies of Grief (Paperback)
For those who have suffered loss of a family member or friend, this book is a must read. And those who still struggle with the happenings of 9-11 may just find healing within these pages. Regardless of the reason, those who grieve will find Ms. Russell's book to be packed with wisdom and comfort. It's obvious from page one that the author did not write this book off the top of her head. The subject is not presented lightly. Ms. Russell did her homework, her research. I found the content to be presented succinctly, in a personable and soothing writing style. The author does not present a blanket "solve-all" approach to grief and loss but does provide the tools necessary to take that first step through the maze and confusion. As a reader who has experienced all phases of grief and loss first hand - both as a Registered Nurse and a fellow human being - I was impressed by the content of this book. The author gently and lovingly guides her readers along a sometimes thorny path providing fresh perspectives. I recommend this book to anyone who may be struggling with grief and loss of any kind.

I saw this book on a recommended list and was interested in the subject she writes about, having recently had to deal with the death of a family member. It's written in a way that is entertaining and informative. I would recommend everyone purchase this book. Sooner or later, we all have to deal with death, and it helps knowing that what we are feeling is normal and to be expected.

Exceptional help,
By Sandy Bowman (Iowa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Conquering the Mysteries and Lies of Grief (Paperback)
Conquering the Mysteries and Lies of Grief is one of the very best books I have ever read on grief and experiences. I love the way the book opens up your thinking by using the author's cases and her own experiences. I kept thinking I was the only one who felt like I was hiding a secret deep inside. I thought I was nuts. This book helped me know I could go on living and even laugh again. The best part is I learned how to communicate openly. I would defintely recommend this book to any one who would like to learn about grief or is in grief.
