2.0 out of 5 stars more of the same...., June 22, 2008
Many of us know we have yeast infections....but many do NOT know if we they have yeast infections...or if the yeast infection is the exact cause of the symptoms we are have...this is the single biggest problem in books like this, as there is no reliable diagnostic method to demonstrate that yeast overgrowth has created disease. Therefore, often people are treated under the assumption, they have yeast related problems. This book does nothing to further the diagnostic process....

With such a lack of information available, any book is a welcome addition to the field. This book in particular pushes a particular program of caprol, Pyslium, pro biotics, clay.... the author does not mention in the book if she has a financial interest in these products. One always has to be skeptical if that financial incentive exists, even if the authors intentions are good.

I tried the authors program, and had no luck with it.... but thats no real surprise, as there is over 100 different yeast strains identified so far in the body, and they all react differently....so what might kill some strains, has no effect on others... yeast cells are like cockroaches, they were here long before humans and will be here long after humans. They change form, they can live on many different foods, they can survive in a rich oxygen environment, or a non oxygen environment....their tremendous adaptation is why they make such a difficult parasite to rid.

The author mentions things like oxygenated products to kill yeast, but yet, there is tons of evidence that oxygen does not kill the yeast which lives in our body. It's disturbing to me to constantly read myths and fallacies that get passed on from one author to another. In many ways, these early books on disease where there is very little hardcore scientific evidence, the authors all follow the religion trend.... they believe what their parents taught them, then they teach their kids the same.... in absence of opposing science / evidence, this is the process that occurs - new books, virtually the same old info. And what adds to this lack of science, is yeast infection, specially of the systemic type, is not truly recognized by the medical community yet, so those that suffer have very limited options.

Interestingly enough, I am surprised none of these so-called experts in this field have researched Xylitol further. (including this book) Xylitol is the only sugar that supposedly kills yeast.... as its a lethal bait to yeast cells. Of course, even this information is sketchy at best. But if there is any truth in this, then a low carb diet using xylitol as the ONLY carb allowed, might be the ultimate solution for yeast overgrowth, as if a sugar can be consumed to provide us fuel, yet at the same time killing yeast. It could represent the ultimate solution.

Also, I am surprised I never read anything about Potassium Sorbate....this is a naturally occurring salt, which destroys the yeast walls, making the cell structure sterile and unable to reproduce. I have had better luck with potassium sorbate ingestion than any of the concoctions pushed in these books, which all try to kill yeast by its presence - similar to medicines. Which means, unless that presence is always around, the yeast will start multiplying again - a life long battle and is always prone to mutation. In addition, the yeast will morph to avoid being killed. A good analogy is, trying to shoot annoying pigeons, vs. poisoning their food. The pigeons resist being shot, but yet have no defense against poisonous food. Hence why I feel many of these practitioners are pursuing the wrong solutions.

also, this book as NO index??? huh?

3.0 out of 5 stars Not that great, March 6, 2006
By Mike Young (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
I've read lots of technical manuals (I'm a computer guy) and this one wasn't particularly well written, but the facts are all there if you're willing to dig through several chapters of "It's ok if you have a yeast infection" messaging. If you are looking for a decent read I'm not sure I could reccommend this title. I would instead check out Healing With Magnets by Gary Null. It is a better example of a book that shows you how to do things.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is of profound value for Americans., June 18, 1997
By A Customer
The author has received rave reviews on her subject matter, evidenced by the popularity of her written work among professionals and the public. Her work is so intensee. Pentland is pleased that this author has decided to share her topics of female problems with the general populace. We are proud to present Conquering Yeast Infections...a lifetime work and obviously a goal to bringing this subject matter to light..for women and their doctors. Quite an insightful book....a must read for women
