Complex, Real Characters, & Superb Research (Sexy, too),
By Sherry Haub (Overland Park, KS United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Conqueror's Lady (Harlequin Historical) (Kindle Edition)
I found a lot of things to like about this novel: the main characters, Giles & Fayth, were both so well rendered as complex, very real, likable-but-fallible people caught up in the middle of the muddled aftermath of the historic 1066 Norman conquest of the much less sophisticated Saxons living in the current-day U.K.
All of the well-researched history gave the settings, events and even minor characters the sort of "next-door-neighbor" familiarity that allows you to suddenly make sense of a whole host of complex social and political and geographic issues that dominated the European scene for centuries thereafter (just a shout-out to any of you history nerds....er...buffs..out there!) OMG --- I've gne and BURIED THE LEAD! The ROMANCE in this story
