This review is from: Conquest of the Crystal Palace (Video Game)
Why was this game not popular? I think it must have been the box art! I randomly played this gem on an emulator recently, and it was so good that I bought the cartridge!

Conquest of the Crystal Palace is an above-average sword-slashing platform game. You control a Prince who, with his dog, is storming his family's former home to take it back from some bad guys.

The gameplay is unique in that you can call your dog into battle at any time to help you fight the demons and zombies and birds. The controls are fairly solid. The difficulty is pretty well balanced, although the 2nd level seems to be quite a bit more challenging than levels 3 or 4.

The story is progressed through a series of encounters with a girl named Kim (who also sells you weapons and items). While you are shopping, she dresses as a news reporter and gives you a special report on the scenario (or the weather...). It's kind of bizarre, and pretty funny.

Overall, the game has a rather whimsical vibe to it. The box art is in no way reminiscent of the game's style. The graphics are all fairly cute, and the music is upbeat with an eastern melody.

If you like to play old NES platformers, this one is a rare treat for 50 cents or so on Amazon. Do yourself a favor and grab a copy.
