5.0 out of 5 stars Victory or Death! December 16, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
In this hard hitting installment, Riggs has his back against the wall when the Mechanoids return to earth with a vengence. A new series of tricks hidden up their mechanical sleeves, including a massive new warship, rocks Star Force back on its heels.

Assassins, Mechanoids, Marvin, a fractious Admiral Crow with his own agenda and a host of other problems including earth governments, his upgraded girlfriend and a reluctant Fleet, dog Riggs' heels every step of the way as he attempts to save the planet earth from another attempt to enslave or annihilate humanity.

To my mind most similar to Extinction, the second book of this series, Conquest doesn't let up for a minute. Colonel Riggs is unwilling to give an inch when the Mechanoids are only interested in taking a mile and attacking with overwhelming force.

I recommend this book as another sterling addition to the Star Force Universe.

I enjoyed the first three books and would recommend them. This installment had everything and more. The Jack of all trades hero, aliens, robots, an omnipresent superwoman, horrific villains, desperate battles and space marines fighting a mile under the ocean. As I dove into the Sea Story episode my disbeliever meter finally pegged out and I was compelled into a reality check. This yarn had crossed the line from Science Fiction and had become a Fairy Tale. Fortunately I was able to use time travel and fly dozens of pages into the future where I continued on. Until now I have enjoyed this series. Hopefully this will continue on and without a "Once upon a time".

I recommend reading "Conquest", and without hesitation give it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.

The only caveat is that a reader new to the Star Force series should read each of the books, including "Conquest", IN the ORDER in which they were written, as follows: Star Force series book #1, "Swarm"; book #2, "Extinction"; book #3, "Rebellion"; and book #4, "Conquest".

Based on my purchase history Amazon recommended that I read the book "Swarm", which is the first book in B.V. Larson's Star Force series. I read it and thought it was awesome, and was totally hooked on the Star Force series; as soon as I finished that first book I immediately clicked to my Kindle's on-line search tool, found the Star Force Series book #2 and, due to the relatively effortless way of purchasing books from Amazon's online store, and the book's instantaneous download to my Kindle, no more than 45 seconds had passed from the time that I finished reading "Swarm" to when I eagerly began reading book #2, "Extinction". I repeated this pattern with each successive book in the series, and by Sunday night I had finished book #4, "Conquest".

An excellent characteristic of B.V. Larson's Star Force series is the strength of each new novel, with no letdown from one novel to the next. I first realized how awesome the Star Force series was in this respect after reading the first two books in the series, "Swarm" and "Extinction". I was really impressed and thoroughly enjoyed "Swarm" and was thrilled when the follow up, "Extinction", was every bit as good (including the cool technology and ideas associated with its uses, interwoven with a great story, engaging and interesting characters, etc.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining books, but... October 30, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've read the previous 3 books in this series as well. Let me say they are very entertaining and hard to put down. But the problem with them is two-fold:

1. No character development

The books move way too fast, you are left wishing they would slow down a little bit and Larson would more fully develop the background story as to the other aliens, the mysteries of the universe he setup, the military strategy, the political issues, etc. That being said, this is a minor problem compared to the love story.

2. The girlfriend damn near makes the books unreadable

Without the underlying love story between Kyle Riggs and Sandra, the books are already stretching (but not quite reaching) semi-ridiculous. Thanks to the action and plot weaves and the uniqueness of the universe that Larson creates, he makes up for these surface-level deficits in a big way.

That being said, Sandra nearly ruins the books completely. In the first place, she is way too involved in every aspect of the story. No one would buy a military commander bringing his girlfriend everywhere with him in the middle of a war. Even worse, the unprofessionalism of it all is just snickered and waved off by all of the characters around them, even the inner circle (even though Larson makes them out to be strict no non-sense pros in every other way). Worse than that, Riggs even comments that he shouldn't keep bringing her everywhere, but that is followed by another adventure in which she is literally on his tail and inserting herself into everything he does with his approval.

Though I could give many examples from the first four books, reading chapter 22 of this particular book was the absolute height of folly.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was a little disappointed in Sandra
It was exciting. The only problem is where it leaves off. It forces you to read the next one. I was a little disappointed in Sandra.
