A so-so gamebook...,

This review is from: Conquest at Quendor (Zork #4) (Mass Market Paperback)
--Characters--
It was interesting to have Syovar's son in the game, who only appeared briefly in the previous book "Cavern of Doom." --Artwork-- Above average - it was nice that there is a picture for every bad ending. --Story-- Compared to "Cavern of Doom," this book was much too predictable. For "Cavern of Doom," it was very challenging figuring out what the correct choice was. For this book, Jeaar's hint just gave away what the correct choice was, reducing the challenge significantly. The good ending feels abrupt and unsatisfying. This was very disappointing considering how satisfying and developed the ending was for "Cavern of Doom." There is a typo in the text for the cheater's choice on page 68 - the next page should be 73, not 70. After that, the next page should be 68 to create the infinite loop. An interesting idea, but the typo ruins the fun. --Conclusion-- As a gamebook, this book is okay, but in comparison to its predecessor "Cavern of Doom," it is very disappointing. |
