4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of Conrad for the Money, May 26, 2011

I can't comment on the issue of more than one publisher's version being reviewed here - Amazon says this is the product I bought.

This was a great way to fill in some of the Conrad works I had missed over the years. He wrote much more than the Lord Jim, Victory, or Heart of Darkness you might have seen in school. I particularly enjoyed the nonfiction work about the days of sail, which went from the peak and into decline during Conrad's lifetime.

I'm no literature reviewer, but I'll make a couple of comments in that area anyway. Conrad often writes about the dark side of man, about ships and their crews, and about parts of the world which were remote and exotic during his time. Few authors could have written so knowledgeably about his subjects. His writing can be beautiful and wonderfully descriptive. A warning for the modern reader used to "page turner" fiction: Sometimes you may find yourself saying "enough with the long winded descriptions, get on with the story". I suppose that's to be expected with literature over 100 years old.

The one drawback to getting so many works in one download is that it's not easy to keep track of what you have read.

One other thing - there do seem to be some "typos" in the text. Enough to suggest that this went through a scanning process at some point, but not enough to be an problem. Fonts and such were no problem. Everything was completely readable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Collection for an Excellent Author, June 6, 2011

I loved being able to find any book or chapter using the active table of contents. This book's organization sets it above other similar collections. It is only fitting that something like this book would be made for a great writer like Joseph Conrad.

Works of Joseph Conrad

Heart of Darkness is an acclaimed work of literature. I recommend this book for fans of Apocalypse Now.
