Carefree Inspirational Music from the Future of Reggae,
By
This review is from: Conscious Revolution (Audio CD)
I'm not a huge fan of reggae music. It's so niche that I feel disconnected from it. But the music of Cipes and the People is more than just a genre. It's music that really reaches out to everyone and pulls you into its groove. Cipes himself is a pretty good singer, and one can't help but be inspired by the fact that someone so young is out there promoting messages of togetherness and love. A lot of the songs are addressed to women (the one thing that may prevent it from being truly universal), but even a gay guy like me feels like getting up and dancing when I hear this music. The best tracks are the ones that take on topics like making the world a better place ("Free Me," "Rescue," "Jah People," "Conscious Revolution"), but even the more standard love songs work well in their beach-y arrangements. I can just see a bunch of kids from the O.C. jamming out to this music while having a beach bonfire. Hell, I kinda feel like lighting up a stogie and joining them!

I found about cipes and his band because I am a big fan of Ben 10 Alien force and he does one of the voices. So I looked him up and found his cd with his band Cipes and the people. The cd is exceptional; the vocal arrangements, instrumental arrangements, messages and beats are out of this world. If you are music Junky like me Conscious Revolution by Cipes and the people is a must buy cd.

After hearing about Cipes and the People and knowing they were going to be in my area soon, I had to buy the CD.
The band has such an original sound (almost like a mix of Sublime and Bob Marley) and the music is very inspirational. I have listened to the CD so many times and it never gets old. Cipes and the People had me singing songs the next day at work and there is not a doubt in my mind that this band will make it big. Anyone who grew up by the beach or just loves the sound of original reggae should definitely buy this CD.

Bought the Cipes Cd yesterday at Borders! (They need more in stock, people here aren't able to buy it at stores!)Played Cipes in the car and at home 3 times and was singing along and just felt freaking happy!Very Addictive tunes,Jazzy, with a hint of Reggae and Pop depending on the tune. Well produced and written..The sets flow together real well! Rescue is one of my favorites! Played the tunes at 2 clubs in Roswell,Georgia and the whole place was dancing amd jiving "wondering who this group was?" This guy is going to be a hit!

I happened upon Cipes And The Potheads, err, I mean Cipes And The People via my girlfriend's CD collection. I will not debate that they are a well-rehearsed band. And all of them are fine looking gents. Nice enough to go out with your kid sister, etc. But the minute that these bozos pick up musical instruments and attempt to entertain, they become, by definition ENTERTAINERS, and are subject to the same standards by which other entertainers are judged.
Which brings me to the crux of the matter. Cipes And The People are doing nothing new or interesting with music! Is this poor excuse for a band the best reggae has to offer? No way. DO buy this recording and DO pay $10 or more to see this band if: 1 - Vanilla Ice is "too black" for you 2 - You're bored and at least suicide is something to do 3 - You are easily amused I'm not going to comment on other reggae bands, seeing as everyone already has an opinion or couldn't care less, BUT please, PLEASE, PLEASE demand MORE from this genre than this pathetic excuse for a band. If you keep buying it, they will keep making it. And we deserve better. |
