An adequate understanding of the evolution of consciousness presupposes an adequate understanding of evolution, on the one hand, and of consciousness, on the other. This is a collection on the past, present and future of consciousness which seeks to contribute to the understanding of some of the most important conceptual problems of our time. It looks at modern synthesis and the human genome project to find out what makes humans distinctive.
