Academy Award-winner Kevin Kline (1988 Best Supporting Actor -- A FISH CALLED WANDA) and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (A PERFECT STORM) heat up the screen in CONSENTING ADULTS, the spine-tingling sexy thriller that seduced audiences and critics alike. When two couples living next door to each other grow too close, one of the husbands risks everything for a passion he can't resist -- his neighbor's wife. His temptation traps the foursome in a shocking web of betrayal and murder. And now accused of a crime he didn't commit, he must race against time to save his family from a shocking fate. Directed by master of suspense Alan J. Pakula (PRESUMED INNOCENT), this erotic thriller twists and turns as tension builds to a sensational heart-stopping climax.

The first half is a rather typical suburban-marriage story, but before you know it, BAM! It turns into a scary murder story with twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. Kevin Kline gives a strong performance as mild-mannered Richard who thinks the grass is greener next door, but Kevin Spacey steals the show, as usual. He plays overly-friendly Eddy, gradually becoming the kind of raving psychopath that Spacey plays so well.
There are many plot holes that make the story more than a little far-fetched, but still I enjoyed it and recommend it for those who like thrillers.
Every one is perfectly cast and I am telling you the twister at the end makes this oldie a Goldie
Is this the definition of a suspenseful thriller or what ????????
The sound is just the same, Stereo 2.0
It has no subtitles at all; not for Hearing Impaired, not in Spanish, not in French.
This BluRay was made BY THE Mentally Impaired or FOR the Mentally Impaired.
I'm angry for buying this very poor VHS quality BluRay.
The movie is awesome, pure Allan J. Pakula, mistery, suspense, virtuoso acting from everybody.
From Forest Whitaker, Kevin Kline, and Kevin Spacey (all oscar winners) to Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio who is the balance of the plot.
Rebecca Miller is also shocking as an actress.
PLEASE PLEASE Make this Blu Ray again the way it should be made.
These are all titles that Buena Vista/Disney is clearly not interested in releasing themselves and amazingly we get them at very good value for money. If you are interested in loads of extras then these titles are not for you, because there are absolutely none.
You just get the movie in a decent, not perfect, presentation.
No 5 stars because they should have at least included subtitles. A Theatrical trailer for the movie would be a nice addition too.
On the surface, Richard (Kevin Kline) appears content with his life and wife Priscilla, but underneath, is actually envious of his neighbor Eddy (Kevin Spacey) and attracted to Eddy’s wife Kay. Sensing this, Eddy makes Richard a deal -- Richard can have sex with Kay as long as Eddy can have sex with Priscilla.
But there's a catch.
Instead of asking these wives to consent to this deal, they'll bypass their consent by tricking them. Here's the plan Eddy proposes....while the women are asleep, Richard and Eddy will sneak out of their house and into the neighbor's house to have sex with these women. Since the lights will be off, the wives will assume they're having sex with their own husbands.
And Richard accepts this deal!! And not without chances to back out either. When he sneaks into Eddy's house, there's a long staircase he must climb before reaching Kay's room...giving him plenty of time to grow a conscience...but he doesn't. He goes through with it.
It’s bad enough Richard bypasses his wife’s consent to have sex with other women, but to also pimp her out to another man, also without her consent, makes Richard way too despicable to root for. Yet, you’re expected to quickly forgive and root for him to solve this mystery and get back with his wife. Even his wife quickly forgives, sending the message that what he did wasn’t so bad…when really, both men should’ve been charged with rape.
I did think the movie was suspenseful, but also thought how the murder wraps up in the end was nonsensical.
