Book Description

January 2, 1998
The Consequence is a story about Carlos Ramirez, a young soccer player born to Colombian immigrant parents in La Jolla, California. After proving his soccer prowess in both high school and college, Carlos decides to play pro ball in South America, despite his parents' objections. Carlos moves to Cali, Colombia, where he quickly becomes a star with the team Deportivo Melino. He soon meets a beautiful woman, Lisa Menendez, who just happens to be married to Roberto Menendez, the owner of the team and a powerful Cali business magnate rumored to have strong ties to the local drug cartel. Despite the obvious dangers, Carlos and Lisa have a secret love affair. When Menendez finds out, everyone's world is turned upside down. It is a romantic, action-packed story, filled with deceit, dishonor, intrigue and adventure.

About the Author

Mr. Soave has a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from The American University in Washington, D.C., and a Juris Doctor in International Law from the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State. His academic accomplishments carried him to recognition as a member of the National Honor Society (Sigma Iota Rho) for demonstrated excellence in foreign and international affairs at the undergraduate level, and as the recipient of the Rakow Scholarship Award for achievement as one of the outstanding law students in the State of Michigan.

Mr. Soave began his career at The White House in 1987, serving as an intern and project officer for the President's initiatives in Central America. Mr. Soave helped to coordinate White House briefings on the Nicaraguan Contra political transition.

After leaving the governmental and political arena in 1988, Mr. Soave formed RGI, an international marketing company. Within a decade, RGI has grown from a small boutique firm into a diversified international service company. Today, RGI facilitates a variety of international business transactions and operates offices in the U.S., South America, Europe and the Middle East. RGI has three operative divisions: global mergers and acquisitions; international automotive marketing and consolidation; and Latin American marketing, entertainment and film.

Most recently, RGI was responsible for creating the world's largest manufacturer of automotive brake hoses by assisting its client, C.F. Gomma S.p.A. of Italy, to purchase the Weatherhead Brake Hose Company (a division of the Dana Corporation).

RGI is also actively assisting numerous Tier One suppliers such as American Axle & Manufacturing to establish business operations in Brazil and Argentina. RGI's mission is "to have an absolute and undying commitment to the successful facilitation of international business transactions."

Mr. Soave was an adjunct professor of International Economics and Finance at the Walsh College of Business in 1993 and 1994, and he has published several journals and articles regarding international issues. His most notable publications were The Journal of International Law and Practice (4 volumes), an analysis of the North American Free Trade Agreement, The Legality of Intervention in Bosnia-Herzegovina and The Consequence.

Soccer Background
Antonio Soave has played soccer since he was five years old. He grew up in the city of Detroit, but did his youth soccer training with a variety of ethnic teams. Among these teams were the German Capathia Kickers, the Italian Mt. Clemens Booters and the Albanian Hope Shpresas. Mr. Soave advanced as a youth player and became a standout in high school. While at Notre Dame High School in Harper Woods, Michigan, Soave received All-Catholic, All-Metro, All-State, and All-American Honors. His All-American honors were bestowed upon him by both Adidas Scholastic Coach and Parade Magazine.

Soave went on to play his first year in college at North Texas University in Denton, Texas. As a scholarship athlete, he played only sporadically in his freshman year. He returned to Detroit the summer after his first year at North Texas, and practiced with the Detroit Express of the American Soccer League (ASL). He then opted to move to Italy, the land in which his father was born, to pursue a career in professional soccer. For three years, Soave spent extensive time training with teams such as Lazio (Rome), U.S. Vigor Senigalia, Forlimpopoli, Formia and Campobasso. Soave saw very little actual playing time though. He later returned to college at the American University of Rome, and graduated in 1987 from its sister school, The American University in Washington, D.C.

Soave went on to travel extensively throughout Latin America where he played soccer informally. He also played semi-professionally in the Super League in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

Soave returned to the Detroit-area in 1989, and became involved as a part-owner of a professional soccer team in Windsor, Canada in 1993 (Windsor Wheels). Soave and a group of investors moved the team to Detroit in 1994, calling it the Detroit Wheels. The Wheels participated in the United States Inter-regional Soccer League (USISL) in 1994 and 1995. Soave also created two other teams in the league in 1995, the Grand Rapids Explosion and the Kalamazoo Kosmos. Soave divested all soccer operations in the fall of 1995.

He continues to play with an over-30 team in Troy, Michigan, the Furia Latina. He also coaches a small group of gifted children on a private basis.

2.0 out of 5 stars Early Teenager Level Reading, April 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Consequence (Mass Market Paperback)
I was honestly disappointed with this book. The editor's blurbmakes it seem like a very good story-line, but once I received thebook, I realized it is very simplistic and written for an early-teenreader. However, I would be cautious about the sexual suggestiveness of the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Story, April 20, 2004
This review is from: The Consequence (Mass Market Paperback)
The book "The Consequence" was a nice love story and very easy to read and digest. I would recommend anyone to read it for their simple reading pleasure. The story was easy to follow. It could have possibly been a little more indepth, but, it was easy enough to follow and understand and enjoy, nevertheless. Antonio Soave, you did a nice job. Erica Newman's mother, Judy
