4.0 out of 5 stars A Devastating Truth
"Consequences: When Love is Blind" will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride. Although we have been made more aware and are also more informed of these serious social issues, Mrs. Herman does a great job of enlightening us, AGAIN, while keeping us entertained. 3.0 out of 5 stars Love Is Not That Blind
Linda takes you into the marriage of Sade and Andrea. Sade is not the average kind of women that questions her man of his whereabouts. As long as he was coming home to her there wasn't no problem. It's the day of their anniversary when she gets a phone call "I have a client and the meeting will be running over. So we are going to have to cancel our anniversary." After the...

"Consequences: When Love is Blind" will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride. Although we have been made more aware and are also more informed of these serious social issues, Mrs. Herman does a great job of enlightening us, AGAIN, while keeping us entertained. I was caught up in the drama from the first page. André Peters was a piece of work and had me shaking my head throughout as he foolishly kept denying his problems. And although I sympathized with Sade Peters, I was also frustrated with her for enabling André and allowing him to continue to live his lie and recklessly endanger other unsuspecting men/women. I wanted Sade to put him on BLAST the moment she discovered the truth. IMO, Sade let him off WAY too easy, she should have been a little more proactive with her anger from the moment she uncovered this ULTIMATE betrayal. I mean he basically showed NO respect for her life, and little to no remorse for his actions until the very end. The secondary cast of characters only aided in fueling your emotions as you read this "true-to-life" heartbreaking tale. This is a shockingly engaging read and I look forward to seeing what Mrs. Herman plans to share with us in her follow-up, "Consequences: The Life She Chose".

5.0 out of 5 stars Secret Life, March 29, 2008
This review is from: Consequences: When Love Is Blind (Paperback)
There are so many things killing the African American community. Consequences: When Love is Blind by Linda R. Herman is an eye opening novella. Sade and Andre Peters have what is the epitome of what a perfect marriage is supposed to be, she an author and he an agent for NFL players. Life changes for the high school sweethearts on their seventeenth wedding anniversary. Someone was too blind to see past wedded bliss and love.

Herman creates a woman with strength and compassion, who takes something which should have made her bitter and used it to empower others just like her. She decided to write her life story while Andre lived with his head in the clouds, pretending what was their fate, was not true.

I wish this was a longer piece, however, sometimes it is better said with less words and Linda R. Herman executed the message flawlessly. At the end of the story, there is a sneak peek of the sequel, Consequences: The Life She Chose. I cannot wait to read it. I recommend Consequences" When Love is Blind to anyone interested in a quick read with an important message.

5.0 out of 5 stars Down Low Dirty Men, February 5, 2008
This review is from: Consequences: When Love Is Blind (Paperback)
"Consequences: When Love is Blind" by Linda R. Herman is the best fiction book I've read this year. I want to give the author a standing ovation because that was a great book!

Sade Peters is married to Andre with two beautiful twins, Andrea and AJ. She thought she had the perfect life and family, until her seventeen-year-anniversary. Sade discovered more about her husband's dirty laundry than anticipated. And what she discovered changed her life forever. Sade chose to live with this secret for a while until more drama began to arise. She thought she had taken more than enough, apparently not. Will Sade began to handle this drama, or will it be too late?

I love this book; it is now officially one of the best books I have read. I loved the way the author kept the details to a minimum and got straight to the point. This book should be recommended to all African American females as an "eye-opener." It should come as no surprise then the five star rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars AAMBC Book Reviews, August 1, 2008
This review is from: Consequences: When Love Is Blind (Paperback)
Linda R. Herman undoubtedly created a life within Sade that all readers will come to love. When you think about men being on the down low the first thing that comes to mind is "so they are gay." But you don't automatically think of the death sentence that can come from sleeping with a man who has random sex with men. This story was so heart whelming, as I turned the pages reading Sade's story about how the only man she has ever slept with and love in her entire life, rewarded her with a death sentence, tears dropped from my eyes. I could feel the pain in each word. I could feel the pain within her heart. I could see has her life drifted away. I saw when her casket landed for her final resting place. I highly recommend Consequences when Love is blind for all readers. The life Linda told, the fact that she let us into her mind, was so rewarding and as I continued to read the very last pages, I thought what causes a woman to be blind. Why cant men be honest about their sexuality. With this story I hope you all will realize its not bad being gay. It's hurtful to be dishonest. At the end it's God who judges us, not man kind. This book marks a continuance to the awareness of drugs, down low men, and the epidemic that continues to kill our black race. FIVE STARS for Linda R Herman. A woman with a focus set on creating a more powerful movement.

5.0 out of 5 stars ...but now I see, March 15, 2008
This review is from: Consequences: When Love Is Blind (Paperback)
Linda R. Herman weaves a tapestry of real emotion in the story of Sade Peters, a woman who paid the ultimate price for believing and trusting her husband. His devastatingly dark secret comes to light and destroys not only the life of his wife but shatters the lives of his entire family. Sade's life is cut short as she suffers because of her husband's sin but not before she reaches out to help save the lives of others.
This book will have you mesmerized from the beginning. You won't be able to put it down until the very last astounding word. The storyline is executed flawlessly and the characters come to life before your very eyes.
Do yourself a favor. Read "Consequences: When Love Is Blind" then pass it along and let the story of Sade Peters live on and change the lives of others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never Put It Down! ( By Author Marie Antionette), March 8, 2008
This review is from: Consequences: When Love Is Blind (Paperback)
Bravo Ms. Linda Herman! One of the realest fiction books I've ever read. This book shows that no-one is immune to such tragedies and to stereo-type a person can cost you your life. The emotions in this book are real, the truths are real and so are the consequences. My heart went out to Sade's character as she endured such unfair circumstances, after she had done all she though was right. She was the ideal mother and wife. Andre's character made me angrier by the page because of his selfishness and disrespect. It took me under 4 hours to complete this book, and once it was done, I felt enlightened. Linda Herman is a great writer and I can't wait to read her next piece! Bravo Ms. Linda Herman, Bravo!

4.0 out of 5 stars Consequences- When Love is Blind- The Review, March 2, 2008
This review is from: Consequences: When Love Is Blind (Paperback)
Consequences: When Love is Blind is an intriguing, fast paced novella which peeks into the lives of Andre and Sade Peters. This couple seems to have it all- the beautiful home, twins, and all the stability that married people pray for. The wind is knocked out of Sade's sails when she finds that her husband has been keeping secrets from her throughout their entire seventeen year marriage. And it turns out, those secrets are deadly!

Linda Herman engaged me in her characters and I was hooked from page one. Her writing brings you first hand into Sade's thoughts and feelings and I found myself on the same roller coaster of emotions as her characters. This book definitely gets at the heart of some issues that are pressing in our communities today and can encourage conversation that will strenghten our relationships!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read For All, February 29, 2008
By
This review is from: Consequences: When Love Is Blind (Paperback)
Linda Herman, gave it to the world exactly the way it is about HIV/AIDs in the African - American communities as well as what holds true in other communities. Imagine finding out that your 'Huxtable-like' lifestyle was nothing but, a lie and by the time you find out, its too late. That's what happened to Sade Peters when she discovered her husband wasn't just low-down but on the down-low. An outstanding, absolute must read for all!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Hard Cold Reality, February 21, 2008
This review is from: Consequences: When Love Is Blind (Paperback)
Sade Peters is like many women: She allows love to blind her from the truth.

After seventeen years of what she considered a happy marriage, she painfully learns that the union is just a facade for her Down-low husband, Andre. The revelation forces Sade to face hard realities and her life is forever changed.

This is an EXCELLENT offering from Linda R. Herman. She draws you into the characters and allows you to feel their pain.

I strongly recommend this novella to everyone, especially men, who's ready to deal with the truth about how sexual secrets destroy the innocent.

5.0 out of 5 stars This touched my heart..., September 23, 2008
This review is from: Consequences: When Love Is Blind (Paperback)
I really liked Sade, she was down to earth and successful, and showed a lot of joy in her work and family life. She's happily married, and Andre and her appear to have a wonderful relationship along side their children. However... sometimes a relationship may appear different then what is behind closed doors. Linda captured this story so well, in so many ways. What Sade finds out - years into her marriage is just beyond devastating.

HIV/AIDS is something that is killing black women. Some may just shove the issue under the door, but it needs to be talked about and addressed. People need to be aware. Linda did a superb job in tackling this issue and fictionalizing it, but yet awaking us to how serious and real this subject really can be. After reading the book I had to literally meditate on what I had read - it touched my heart in more ways then one.

I love Linda's style of writing. As an author, I enjoy engaging in various author's styles and how they form their plot and bring their characters to life. Linda does this so, so well. If you are married, you need to read this book, if you are not married, you need to read this book --- just get the book and read it.
