Book Description

March 2004
"I wrote this book because I believe most Americans see America the way I do—from ground level."

Conservative Like Me is a compelling grassroots indictment of the dysfunctional state of American politics and the continuing erosion of the traditionally conservative values that made our nation great. Combining well-researched facts with personal testimonials culled from his own life as a hard-working, middle-class American, author Evan M. Archilla reveals:

The assorted (and sordid) ways the federal government uses, abuses, and loses taxpayers’ hard-earned money
A surprisingly simple way to solve America’s so-called race problem
What our Founding Fathers really meant by freedom of religion
The truth behind Roe v. Wade and a "pro-choice" movement that is anything but
Why Kyoto was bad, ANWR is good, and it just might be the environmentalists who need saving
How Hollywood is redefining free speech and what American moviegoers can do about it
How an ungrateful and envious world community is hindering America’s victory in the War on Terror
Honest and engaging, Archilla brings a much-needed new voice to the political discussion—one that knows exactly what it's like to live, work, and pay taxes in middle-America.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, must-read book for the Average American, June 18, 2004

This review is from: Conservative Like Me: Restoring American Politics, Piety & Patriotism from the Ground Up (Paperback)
Without a doubt, a highly recommended, must-read book. Well-researched, articulate, and succinct - written from the prospective of the average hardworking American, Evan Archilla writes, and is a champion for, the silent majority. He writes about the frustrations endured and felt from the perspective of a middle-class, hardworking American who wants the best for himself, family, friends, and ultimately, America.

Archilla demystifies typical liberal misconceptions and often controversial issues such as education, environmental issues (Kyoto Protocol, ANWR), and other issues. He states the liberal arguments and debunks them using well documented facts and logic. Many of the points and issues that he highlights are also well documented in previously published works, such as those from Ann Coulter and Bernard Goldberg (Slander and Bias respectively), but Archilla distills the essence of the topic into a easily readable few pages that an average American can easily understand.

Archilla's book is easy to read and logically written. One may find himself agreeing with his issues and points. Without realizing it, one may realize that he is actually part of the silent majority, a hardworking, middle class American, who is a conservative.

4.0 out of 5 stars Archilla Hits a Home Run, May 12, 2004

This review is from: Conservative Like Me: Restoring American Politics, Piety & Patriotism from the Ground Up (Paperback)
I considered myself well read on the issues discussed in Conservative Like Me. I thought this book would be at best a a different perspective. Evan Archilla taught me a few lessons both in conservatism and judging a book by its cover, title or author.
I have read similar books by popular radio hosts or politicins, but Conservative Like Me is the one I now use in discussions with liberal minded associates. Archilla keeps it concise, on point, and documented. Conservative Like Me is better researched than many papers I read during law school. I know exactly where to turn if I want verification of his assertions or more information.
The only problem with the book is the factual and logical presentation style. Many people who disagree with Archilla's conclusions will do so because of how they feel about issues. Reminding them of the facts will do little to persuade them. I think it is possible both to have the right facts and the right feelings as a conservative.
Archilla has produced a valuable tool for today's political discussions. I encourage you to buy and read this book. It's conservative, like me.
