The companion piece to a permanent exhibit at the Atlanta History Center, this impressive album brings together never-released photographs of Bobby Jones gathered from private collections. The attractively designed book sprinkles the images across an overview of Jones' career, a brief history of Augusta National and the Masters, and some reflections on Jones' legacy. The tone is reverential, to be sure--Jones, after all, is Atlanta's favorite son--but it is never cloying or historically inaccurate. Jones' contribution to golf goes well beyond his remarkable accomplishments, and this book vividly captures, in both words and pictures, the way that he came to embody the spirit of golf. Biographies of Jones and numerous histories of the Masters offer more detail on the man and his game, but this tribute catches more of the passion that Jones elicited from those who knew him and watched him swing a golf club.
