4.0 out of 5 stars Great Instructional Video November 13, 2002
Format:VHS Tape
This instructional tape is outstanding for any young or old budding tennis hopeful. Tom explains in detail all facets of the game. I especially liked the forehand topspin shot explanation. Was great - and works. I recommend the tape.

5.0 out of 5 stars Consistent Tennis Wins Wins May 6, 2003
Format:VHS Tape
This first video/DVD in the Tom Avery "Consistent Tennis" series was an enormous help for my wife and me (both 3.0 players). The video covers a lot of ground, different strokes, etc., in short mini-lessons that contain two or three practical, targeted principles each. One can watch the whole thing, or spend just fifteen minutes or so with a specific stroke. Finally, I can actually hit reliable topspin, add a second backhand stroke, understand and use crucial grips, and the like. The technical quality and camera work are quite acceptable, although not quite network-standard.
Our local tennis club (Horseshoe Bay Resort & Club) has a very good USPTA pro/teacher, but this video is a great augmentation. We'll be ordering a couple of others in the series very soon, and will post reviews of them as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Making Tennis a Fun Game May 6, 2003
Format:VHS Tape
After being an INCONSISTENT player for over 40 years this video tape has shown me how to keep the ball in play. I've read numerous tennis books and viewed a number of videos, but nothing has changed my game like this video. The grip and backswing solved my problem. In my opinion this is the best video tape on the market today for improving your basic skills. I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strong Fundamentals July 16, 2003
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I've been playing tennis for many years but have always been nagged by inconsistent play. Watching this video has helped me to identify my inconsistencies. I can't yet say how much this DVD will help my game, but I'm definitely going to try the drills he lays out and see if it makes a difference. If you're a beginner or intermediate who's never had lessons before, this is probably a good way to avoid costly instructors.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST video(s) on the market September 28, 2006
Format:DVD
I am an advanced player but I used to make a series of consistent mistakes. Tom's videos cured ALL! Tom Avery's videos are MUST HAVE if you are serious about improving your game. Having taken instruction from some former ATP Top 100 pros, Tom's instruction is up there with the best AND you can replay it over and over to pick up everything! Another must have is a video camera, if you REALLY want to improve your game because seeing is believing and you can't change what you can't see! You can compare your form to Tom's and see where you need to improve.

The only weak spot is his instruction on the Serve which I don't agree. Tom hits his serve in a way I've rarely seen and not the way I've been instructed before by former top touring pros. Moreover, he only hits one type of serve and doesn't really go into any detail. The USTA and USPTA (yes I am serious about tennis and have seen all the other videos including Bollietteri, Jensen, Annacone..etc. and recommend Tom's over all others on mechanics) both put out good DVDs on how to serve. That said, his Serve video does have good tips such as ball toss.

Mostly geared toward the beginner to intermediate players but helpful for even the most advance players too! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND his DVDs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not cheap, but very good March 23, 2011
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I am a avid tennis player and I wanted to improve, so I read the previous reviews and ordered the dvd. The instruction was just what I needed, simple to understand and extremely helpful. From ground strokes to serving it has helped me. I am not a beginner, but I would say it would help any tennis player improve. I thought there would be two dvd's for the price but there is only one, but it is a very good one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must To Improve Your Play June 27, 2003
Format:VHS Tape
Tom presents information in a clear and concise fashion. This tape provides the basics but the presentation is the best. Tom's approach to teaching is to first point out what is causing an error and then he has you focus on 1 or 2 things to correct the error. His teaching approach is EXCELLENT. Most importantly - his advice works!
