Horror comes in many guises...,
This review is from: The Consolation of Nature and Other Stories (Paperback)
Please read the Publishers Weekly description of this collection. This is not "horror" in the sense of Stephen King and his ilk. It's the horror of an outwardly happily married woman compelled to cut herself to feel some release from the pain of, well, living. It's the horror of finding it in yourself to put down an innocent animal who you believe shares some of the same traits as an ex who did you wrong. Or wakening to find that the creepy sound you heard while drowning in your own self pity and sorrow was that of an animal dying right outside your window, trying to get your attention. This is non-genre literary fiction, and it haunts you because of what you recognize/resemble. And what you don't.

Horrible, horrible book,
By Kesrael (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Consolation of Nature and Other Stories (Paperback)
This book was really, really bad. It did not provide any of the promised 'horror' from the description on the back cover. I don't usually rate the books I read but I just had to give my review on this one. If I could have given it 0 of 5 stars, I would have.
