5.0 out of 5 stars a solid anthology
All of these stories are first-rate and work with a chilling effectiveness. The standouts for me were the stories by Braunbeck, Monteleone, and Piccirilli. Tom Piccirilli's "Thunder of the Captains" is my favorite though; it's a horrifying tale a conspiracy between heaven and hell that will leave you breathless with its execution and ramifications. A...

3.0 out of 5 stars VERY DISAPPOINTING
There were some excellent stories in this anthology...also some very bad....I was very fond of the "Ladies room" and "Only Connect".....some of the authors were unheard ofs.....Del Gratia seemed to be a re-make of several made for TV movies....very disappointing......I would not recommend this book to my fellow readers.

A truly wonderful dark fantasy piece. Pick up the anthology, you won't be sorry you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic story telling!, July 22, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Conspiracy Files (Paperback)
This anthology contains classic story-telling at it's best. From Nancy Holder's vaguely troubling 'The Ladies Room', through Douglas Clegg's rattling good train journey in 'Only Connect'. But the one that stands out the most is Peter Crowther and Simon Conway's 'Dei Gratia'. As you turn each page, the shivers running up and down your spine become more pronounced as the story gathers pace to the inevitable conclusion that awaits us all! I know of Crowther's work through his excellent Narrow Houses anthology series, tons of short stories and his Escardy Gap novel. Conway is a new name to me, but I'll be sure to keep an eye out for more of his work. EXCELLENT!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not even worth the $5 dollars i paid for it !!!!!, July 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Conspiracy Files (Paperback)
I expected more from a fine author such as Peter Crowther. Crowther should be careful who he pairs up with in the future. Characters like Simon Conway can really drag you down. Is Mr. Conway even a published author besides this horrid book? My guess is no. I would not recommend this book to any of my peers.

A book which contains a story by Peter Crowther I expected alot more from. I certainly expect to see better from Crowther in the future. I have always enjoyed his writings. Braunbeck was excellent as always.

This review is from: The Conspiracy Files (Paperback)
THE WORST "SCIENCE FICTION"/"HORROR" ANTHOLOGY EVER READ BY THESE EYES. THE SINGLE MOST HIDEOUSLY AMATEURISH AND HACKNEYED PRODUCTION IN THE HISTORY OF THE MEDIUM. GREENBERG, THIS WAS A BAAADDDDDDDDDD MOVE.

4.0 out of 5 stars The book was lacking alittle......, August 15, 1998

Crowther has always been such an excellent writer. Escardy, etc. This story just did not do it for me. I think solo would have been a much better choice for such a fantastic writer. Conway in time will mature and has potential which I believe experience may develop. In general the book was fascinating but could have been better in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Conspiracy Files....A winner!, July 28, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Conspiracy Files (Paperback)
All of the stories in this book were great, all of them had me on the edge of my reading chair. My favorite was "Dei Gratia" written by Peter Crowther and Simon Conway, this story touched the realism in our 'Medical Community'. I would recommend reading the book, it's one you sure don't want to miss.
