Product Description

Based on the blockbuster hit film starring Keanu Reeves, in Constantine gamers will take on the role of John Constantine in an intense third-person action-horror videogame. Throughout the game, players will encounter terrifying enemies which were all recreated from the movie using original source materials as well as new enemies designed exclusively for the video game. Constantine's "true-sight" ability will help the gamer distinguish friend from foe as they identify half-breed demons and unearth demonic secrets. As the gamer moves between the planes of Earth and "Hell LA", they will discover that one world affects the other, creating original gameplay scenarios over 14 levels.

4.0 out of 5 stars Underrated Survival-Horror Gem!, March 9, 2005

I've seen several lukewarm reviews for this game on a couple Web sites like IGN.com and I almost decided not to buy it, but I went ahead and took the plunge anyway and I was really glad I did! I've read some of the Constantine comics, enough to know who the character is, and I liked the movie all right. Not the best film I'd ever seen, but fun atmosphere. (Keanu's acting is always a little flat but the movie was really more about the effects and creepy occult stuff to me.) Anyway some of what I really love about this game is that it feels a lot like classic survival-horror stuff like Resident Evil and it has a significantly different plot from the movie, though the major characters are the same. (Makes me wonder if perhaps the videogame designers were working from an early version of the script.) Either way, I really dig this game. Great art direction and level design, lots of nice explanations in the journal give you back stories on the demons and artifacts, and the music is pretty great too. Cutscenes are nicely rendered, though the characters move a little stiffly (but even that makes me think warm nostalgic thoughts about Resident Evil games past.) The Easter Egg hunts you go on to find the hidden bonus cards are addictive and the extras aren't bad, though I really wish it had included an actual readable e-comic on the disc or more interviews. The comic scans are OK but nothing to write home about. All in all, though, it's a great survival-horror game and lots of fun, though I agree it's a little short. (Personally I extended the gameplay by playing through again on the most difficult setting, which made things a little more challenging.)

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Shooter., February 22, 2005

Constantine is a third person shooter based on the DC Comic series HELLBLAZER: John Constantine and the movie Constantine .The game has voice acting done by Keanu Reeves. Its like watching a movie and playing along also.Basicly your job is to kill demons and find certain holy artifacts ,locate keys for opening locked doors and find hidden areas using true sight,etc.etc. And sometimes you'll need to travel into the HELL realm to find items or complete a level. Its a Good verse Evil storyline, although Constantine is niether. The controls are descent, Constantine while unarmed walks a little buttery but I did notice he's walks smoother while armed with a weapon. The way Constantine walks reminds me of Hitman games sort of.Constantine jumps automaticly when needed and climbs areas when needed as well, mostly your just on foot at a slow joggers pace. You have the ability to get closer view third person by clicking right analog stick or first person view in the "true sight" by pressing X button.Depending on your controller figuration it may differ.Basicly there's three modes of view.... Third person,Third person closer, and finally First person in "true sight" mode.True sight mode is Constantine's ability to see demons inside of normal looking people, the ability to locate hidden areas marked by a special marker and you can see in the dark, simular to Riddick's sight in Cronicles Of Riddick Butcher Bay.You also have special magic abilites to perform special attacks against demons, like "Storm Crow" which is a lightning attack ,"Hunger" which launches a plague of flies on targeted demon,"Exorcism" which forces demons called bile-riz out of there's human hosts,"Protection" which protects Constantine from all attacks for a short period of time,"Confusion" which bestows Constantines appearance on the targeted demon for a limited time causing surrounding demons to attack the transformed demon,"Gargoyle" which transforms surrounding demons into stone which then can be shattered by a projectile,"Demon Leech" which causes demons to get damage from there own attacks and the only spell that can hurt Balthazar, all these spells use a certain amount of magical power which is replenished by defeated demons, you get certain magical spells as you progress in the game also you can find them in hidden areas located by your "true sight".Constantine has the ability to travel between hell and the regular world by finding a puddle or pool of water and casting a "Gateway" spell ,he then can travel into the HELL realm ,the hell realm is filled with flames and there's a constant hurricane like wind with beat upold cars flying over your head and big fireballs falling from the sky .It looks like a beat up city where everything is in a reddish color. There are demons spawning into both realms to try to kill you .The "Title" credits of the game are really kool ,a Flying demon called a "Seplative" Flies in and picks you up for a ride nicely done. The graphics are nice nothing really stands out but I do have an "S" cable so keep that in mind. The Hell Realm is pretty kool looking lots of heavy wind and flying embers in the air. There's a couple puzzle type things to solve, but not very many in the game If I remember correctly I think there's a total of Three. This game is mostly a shooter with faith based type weapons and you get these certain weapons as you advance in the game that resemble a Shotgun which shoots blessed shells and if you shoot into a wall you'll notice the shells come out in the form of a cross, a Flamethrower that has liquid dragon fire, a Crossbow that fires reusable iron tipped bodkins, my fav the Nailgun that fires reusable 6 inch nails ,and double fisted magnum type guns that fire stones from the road to Damscus. Also Constantine has the ability to perform Unarmed Melee attacks in which the demon flies back Matrix style after being killed in a Unarmed Melee attack, the melee's are simple one button attacks. You get health and magic upgrades if you can find hidden areas by using your "true sight" and Also you can get upgrades for your weapons such as exploding rounds and flame arrows. The "Behemoth" Boss can get tough sometimes, you fight him 3 times in the game, but just check your notes It'll give you tips on killing the bosses.Constantine is not a very hard game.I played it on MEDIUM mode and finished the game in 3 days. There EASY,MEDIUM,and, HARD mode.Constantine is a short game with only 14 levels that arent very big.I wish the game was longer. The game just ended thats was it ...no big ending scene,But I have to say there is alot of movies that connect the levels. All in all Constantine is a solid marriage between storyline CG movies and good gameplay,But its a little too short, they couldv'e added a few more levels ,before you know it your done. And there's no big replay value once you beat it.But you do get bonus cards while playing the game you find little hidden cards while exploring levels then after playing that level you can go to menu screen and see bonus items like COMIC covers and cutscene CG movies ,interviews with cast etc.CHEATS: Infinite Ammo: While Playing Press back button to 'Journal Screen' then press,L-R-L-X-Y-X-X-Y-Y-X-Y-X-X-Y-Y.if code entered correctly screen will flash..Infinite Spell Energy: At Journal screen press, L-R-R-L-L-R-R-L-Y-Y...screen will flash if entered correctly .GOOD LUCK.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, be fair now.., October 6, 2006
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Constantine (Video Game)
I think people are being unfair to this game. Ok, maybe it's not anything unique but still a fun couple of days. I personally finished the game in 2days, unfortunately the game does not have any replay value. There's only the main campaign to play. If they had put a survival mode, or just plain old fun 'kill all demons' mode, it'd be a lot fun to play. Graphics are good, sound effects are ok. I had thought hard and long before buying this game but I'm glad I bought it in the end but keep in mind this game is not 'halo' material, you will not see milestone advancements in this game, just think of it as a 2-3days good time.
