Book Description

October 23, 2007
Enji is moving on to college and it turns out he'll be living with his cousin Misuho, who he hasn't seen in seven years. Enji, once the younger cousin that Mizuho thought of as a cute little brother, is now a tall, handsome man practically oozing with cool. And yet, despite how close they used to be, Enji's giving him the cold shoulder. Has Enji simply grown out of being Mizuho's surrogate younger brother, or is he trying to hide his trun feelings?

4.0 out of 5 stars An endearing BL., October 24, 2007
This review is from: Constellations In My Palm (Yaoi) (Paperback)
This BL is a nice surprise with an engaging, well developed and sweet plot.

Both Misuho and Enji are appealing characters though Misuho does need a good shake. They are cousins and very close during their childhood. They drift apart after one accident when Misuho feels he has failed to meet Enji's "hero worshipping" expectation. Misuho cut off any contact with his cousin, refusing to tag along during family's visit or even take Enji's call because his is just too ashamed.

7 years later Enji comes to live with Misuho's family due to study reasons. Misuho is shocked to find his younger cousin now a handsome and mature young man apart from being taller than him. Misuho slowly realizes his much more than brotherly love for his younger cousin but misunderstandings keep the awkward lovers apart.

It does not help that Misuho is a laid-back character and used to "going with the flow" all through his young life. He just "settles" and never attempts harder for something he really wants, like giving up on their young dreams of studying astronomy together, which his younger cousin persists. I thought Enji could be more agressive. On the other hand he is a young man still in his teens, uncertain of Misuho's feelings and afraid of rejection. Afterall they are guys. Fortunately this pair of awkward lovers has help from Misuho's close friend and Enji's ex-tutor.

The side characters are entertaining. Misuho's family welcoming Enji into their fold does provide some warm moments and the siblings bickering is a nice distraction. I would have preferred a "really complex" relationship between Enji and his ex-tutor, which I thought the mangaka decides at the last minute to shy away from.
It turns soft Yaoi towards the end. So if you are looking for real Yaoi, seek elsewhere. The ending with the boys' stars gazing is really sweet. Of course Yukine Honami's artwork is a delight as usual. Recommended for those of us who appreciate an endearing and sweet BL.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME One-Shot YAOI, December 21, 2007

I was EXTREMELY impressed by this title. YAOI tends to be a bit hit-or-miss, and one-shots in particular tend to be unrealistic and lacking in plot. This title has a TRULY heart-warming plot-line that will leave romantics sighing for hours. Also, the art-work, while not CLAMP, is pretty good for the genre. I give five stars for a great read and RE-read!

This review is from: Constellations In My Palm (Yaoi) (Paperback)
i've enjoyed honami's artwork since desire, but this book also features a story as interesting as that one was. in many ways the plot reminds me of brother (although this story isn't explicit at all) in that it shows the awkwardness between two boys who have grown up together but then drifted apart and are unable to communicate. there's more character development here though than the typical yaoi, and we see how mizuho's actions are all based on his personality and how he slowly comes to realize things about himself and how he needs to change. the misunderstandings between the couple are the usual somewhat farfetched yaoi fare, but if you can look past that this is a great book all around. here honami draws slightly older characters than her other books which is a very nice change that she succeeds in for the most part, and the story is memorable and the side characters are all endearing. another nice release by june.
