5.0 out of 5 stars literature and art lover, April 10, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Construction Alphabet Book (Hardcover)
After seeing the front cover illustration of The Construction Alphabet Book on Amazon, I knew that I'd not be disappointed with the interior images, and had to purchase this book. My three year old son is obsessed with digger machines, as well as all things construction and farm, and when book after book arrived from Amazon, for myself and my older child, he asked for his turn to receive a new "digger" book. Rob Bolster's dump truck and excavator illustration caught my eye, and as we now have a huge library of construction books, I've become more choosey in the selection of new books. Exposing my children to literature and the arts is important to me; the illustrations that were created for this book are exceptional, accurate, and they capture the wonderful light and color of Edward Hooper. With so many poorly illustrated children's books, even our little guy can point out the mistakes in some illustrations, equipment and even in the text of many books, this is a refreshing addition to our collection. Even for the less sophisticated art lover, the beautifully composed pictures of construction vehicles, that are so full of wonderful color and light, will capture your child's attention as much as the subject and text. This will be a book that I will actually keep and enjoy long after the toddler obsession has moved onto something else. In the future, we will be looking for other books illustrated by Mr. Bolster and hope to meet him at a book signing!

This review is from: The Construction Alphabet Book (Hardcover)
My twin boys 3 yrs. old love this book. This is one of the books that gets chosen for bedtime reading every night and we have had it for about a year now. I could probably recite all the words without looking at the pages. That is how much we have read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars extremely pleased, January 7, 2008

I purchased 3 copies of this book. My son and 2 nephews are construction crazed toddlers, and finding this book on Amazon made Christmas very merry. The illustrations are gorgeous, the language very informative, and entertaining as the author provides the sounds the equipment produces. If you want to provide a child with a realistic, educational look at the construction world along with alphabet reinforcement this book is sure to be hit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for kids interested in all things construction!, June 2, 2009

We live near a construction site that my 2.5 year old daughter is addicted to watching. This book is great! We now have the proper names for all of the machinery and equipment we see on the construction site and it does help her learn the alphabet. Ex: My daughter pointed out the letters 'm' and 'i' on my shirt--> "M for mobile rock crusher. I for impact hammer." I was astounded that she retained that knowledge from the book. Those are not run-of-the-mill words for a 2.5 year old. We have other alphabet books, but this one seems to garner her attention the most in terms of making letter associations, I assume because she is so interested in the subject matter. If your child loves heavy equipment then I definitely recommend this book. The illustrations are great and each piece of equipment is described to the appropriate level of detail. The book is very long, so she often cherry-picks it for bedtime reading to delay sleep.

My son loves this book, and he chooses it again and again. I also find it interesting, which is a bonus when having to read the same book 100 times in a row.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tons of action in these high quality illustrations, February 23, 2012
Your truck kid will love this alphabet book. Long chunks of text about all the equipment in a work zone, accompanied by lifelike, realistic art. Little boys love to know the correct names of things. This is a great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of THE best books I've seen, November 5, 2011

This has become my go-to book for gifts for children 2-5 though it could probably work for older kids too. I've given it so many times, and the kids always adore it. Not only does it help children learn the alphabet, they learn about many different types of construction equipment that they will then observe in daily life. It was educational for me as a parent too! My daughter and I have great conversations about the construction we see around thanks to this book. A construction professional I know commented on how impressed he was by it. Great for boys of course, but also terrific for girls - how often do they get construction books? Wonderful illustrations and writing. It also grows with the kids - they like it at 2, but can understand even more as they get older. And so affordable in a paperback. Couldn't recommend it more highly.

My grandson really enjoyed this book. He's 2-1/2 and is very into trucks. This book helped him with identifying the various types of trucks, and the parts thereof. He still hasn't put it down. Great pictures too.
