5.0 out of 5 stars A useful and interesting book, March 4, 2010

This book provided us with useful information about planning to create a rooftop green space on top of our garage. We haven't actually built the garage yet, but we were having trouble finding enough detailed on-line information to guide us through the planning stage. This book gives enough information to help make important decisions without overwhelming you with choices. It also provides very useful diagrams that are easy to understand. We recommend it!

The book seemed a little long on words and somewhat short on practical, usable

information. Photos and diagrams are uninspiring...seems like a textbook or

academic work written in the 1960's or 1970's. However, considering I had very little knowledge of green roofs at all...I was able to increase my understanding. There might be other more

dynamic titles on the subject available.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Overall View, January 29, 2010
This review is from: Green Roof Construction and Maintenance (GreenSource Books) (McGraw-Hill's Greensource) (Hardcover)
This book is a good introduction to a fairly new trend in city living. Looking at the flat space on the top of a building and you can readily see that planting some things up there can provide all kinds of advantages. This includes practical advantages such as better insulation. It also can include an area simply more attractive than the normal roof of a building. Here's a way to get a bit of the countryside into the middle of a city.

This book is by an author that has worked on more than fifty green roof projects. As such he can discuss the construction of a green roof from the standpoint of having been there and done that. It's not a detailed construction manual, but instead a conceptual book that will give you an idea of what you can do and how to go about it.
