Editorial Reviews

Review

While there are significant amount of literatures that address issues of sediment and erosion controls, erosion due to construction has not been addressed often enough. In light of the rapid global development, this timely book provides construction engineers a comprehensive overview of construction site run-off problems, regulations and prevention measures. Guidance for subsequent erosion and sediment controls has also been presented from an engineering prospective to the readers. This book is a must for anyone who is involved in construction and land development and is self-conscious of the environmental impact of these activities. --Shen-en Chen, Ph.D., P.E., Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte

In terms of usefulness, this book receives a grade of A+. The book is perfect reference for the practicing engineer, hydrologist, or storm water management practitioner. The book provides educational background material and real world experience related to erosion and sediment control issues. Therefore, it is an excellent supplementary manual for state or local drainage and sediment control manuals. It provides the background and supporting information that these manuals often do not include. While the text will be most valuable to the practicing professional, it will also be useful in academic settings. --Journal of the American Water Resources Association, Richard H. McCuen Ph.D., Reviewer

The recently published book, Construction Site Erosion and Sediment Controls Planning, Design, and Performance, is a work that will effectively educate those in engineering schools (and beyond) about erosion and sediment control. I was impressed since I consider the authors to have extensive exposure to the intellectual aspects of EC/SC problems. Few of us have enough experience to call ourselves experts. I however, proclaim Bob Pitt, University of Alabama, Shirley E. Clark, Penn State University, Harrisburg, and Donald Lake, Erosion Control Specialist from New York to be experts in the EC/SC field. They have written what is the finest work available to educate future and current engineers that there is more to sediment control than silt fence, and more to erosion control than hay bales. This book is must read for anyone looking for more technical knowledge that has been available before. --Skip Ragsdale, Sunshine Supplies, Inc.; Erosion Control Products
