5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD player for a little one!
My daughter LOVES singing and music, so for her 2nd birthday, I bought her this CD player. At the time, there were not too many reviews and they were very hit or miss, but really there is not much of market for children's toy radios with microphones so I took a chance and I am glad I did. It's been 6 months now and she really enjoys it. It has held up well to rough...

2.0 out of 5 stars Missing one key component! Annoying.
Overall this is a decent CD player for a little kid, but it does have one unforgivable drawback: it does not come with a power adapter. So if it gets used (or left on) a lot, you'll end up buying tons of batteries. I went to Radio Shack and spent another $25 on the AC adapter. Otherwise I would have given it five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD player for a little one!, September 1, 2010

My daughter LOVES singing and music, so for her 2nd birthday, I bought her this CD player. At the time, there were not too many reviews and they were very hit or miss, but really there is not much of market for children's toy radios with microphones so I took a chance and I am glad I did. It's been 6 months now and she really enjoys it. It has held up well to rough handling by a 2 year old as well as her constantly sticking the microphone in her mouth with the "aaaaaaaaaahhhhh" as another reviewer mentioned. I haven't bought an AC adapter yet and agree it would be nice, but my daughter likes to move around and dance with it so I'm not sure it would work for her, but truthfully the first set of batteries held up well and I'm now on my second set of batteries after 6 months. The only things that I think could be improved about this is that: 1) the volume can be a little wonky. You have to set the volume up very high, like over 20, to really hear it. The lower volume numbers are ridiculously low. Also, the microphone seems to have MUCH a louder volume as compared to the music no matter what. 2) The microphone coil is pretty short (which might make sense for safety reasons, but it is not unusual to hear that screeching noise due to microphone interference. Obviously, I would prefer microphone interference to a strangulation hazard, but if they can't make the coil longer, then I think they need to address the microphone interference. 3) while I really like the hold function which prevents the child from constantly rewinding, fast forwarding, stopping, etc. while the music is playing, it has a drawback, which is that the child CAN open the cd player while the hold button is on. So if they are very determined like my daughter, they can succeed in playing with the buttons to make it do something other than play music, such as insert, remove cd player, stick your finger in when cd is spinning. Frankly, I think the open and close feature should be disabled while a cd is playing. Now, these are just helpful suggestions if the maker was interested in improvement, but I am actually really happy all in all with the CD player. Seems like I got lucky because it's been 6 months and it keeps working.

UPDATE: This product is still going strong 10 months later. I would say that the microphone interference can be annoying particularly because you can actually have the microphones turned off and still get a tiny bit of static/interference. Again, not hugely annoying but still weird. Looking into other CD players with microphone for kids, it seems like this is a problem across the board with some microphones that actually stop working.

The other thing that is great is that my daugther is not yet 3 obviously cannot read yet, but because the CD players had distinctly shaped buttons (some are squares, triangles, octagon/hexagon, circles, etc.) she is able to memorize that the triangle is for playing and the square for stopping, the smaller up and down triangles for volume control, etc. I think this is advantageous for a smaller group of kids than a CD players with all circular button let's say.

This was a Christmas gift for my granddaughter. It came on time and was just as it was described. She really loves to sing and this was perfect for her. I was interested in the durability part since she is still young and a little rough on things. So far...still working and she loves to play with it. Great product....glad I was able to find it on this site. Thank you

Wonderful and fun product for my tree and a half year old twins. Parents - get ready to listen to a lot of Wiggles (kids can now turn on the music whenever they feel like it...)

1.0 out of 5 stars Lasted less than a day, November 11, 2011

We received this singalong CD player as a gift, and my two-year-old was immediately into it. But while singing along to a CD, the CD would stop playing in the middle of a song, for no apparent reason. Over and over. My toddler would stop, "More music? More music?" And after 15 seconds, it would start up again, and we'd start singing, and it would pause again. Very frustrating. Then the latch to the player door broke, so now it won't close. I can't believe how much this thing cost, now I have to tell Grandma and Grandpa their gift was a bust. And those short microphone cords are a pain. So is the feedback, which had my toddler running, crying from the room saying his head hurt. What a disappointment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the classroom, June 11, 2011
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Sing Along CD Player (Toy)
I bought this last summer for my kindergarten classroom. It gets used daily in our listening center. The kids knew how to operate it right from the start without any help from me. It has handled use and abuse from 16 kids for a year now with no problems. The sound is great and I love that there is a volume lock in the battery compartment because kids can still adjust the volume but it doesn't get too loud for my small classroom. The only reason I didn't give it the 5th star is because of the cost and time of having to go out and get an adapter to be able to use the cd player. Overall, a very solid product that I would buy again if I had the need for a 2nd player.

My 3-year old had this toy for 3 weeks and dropped it. Now it won't work. Since this is a pre-school toy, you would expect it would stand up to a preschooler. Don't waste your money!

Our grand son dearly loves listening to the music and singing along with the songs - and his little sister loves the extra mic.

Got this for my 2 and 4 year old boys, and they love it! They can operate the CD player themselves, and it's a HUGE deal that there are not one but two microphones! Sound quality on the CD player is great and for the mikes as well. Other reviewers have complained about the loud volume of the mikes and I'd tend to agree, but that's kind of the whole fun of the toy. It's so fun/cute to see, and hear, them sing along with favorite songs, or just to talk into the mikes just for the sake of hearing their own voice. Highly recommended by this family.

when I first bought this for my niece, the microphones worked, but the CD player would not function. The next day, the CD player miraculously started working. She loves it.
