This book is an excellant introduction not only to constructivism in psychotherapy but to understanding constructivism in general which is impacting schools,health care law,philosophy, and society. Eminently readable, it has several authors who write provocatively and with passion and humility-stimulating interest in how constructivism reflects larger concerns as a postmodern orientation to psychotherapy.
For those professionals involved in health care, communication, or law or psychotherapy this book shows how our orientations to our clients are constructed and how theirs are constructed as well.
This is not a one size fits all book but emphasizes flexible thinking that honors peoples humanity by honoring their subjectivity and their ability to "celebrate an original relation to the universe" as Emerson wrote. The authors welcome divergent ideas in a fluid framework that allows for growth and change. The theoretical model presented is essentially the backdrop for patient centered medicine and learner centered education.
This book reflects the quiet revolution that a practical and i might add virtuous theory is making on the larger society as it serves as an alternative for the other directed, oversimplifying, static, one size fits all practices that modernity has thrust upon us.
For those trying to understand the world we live in this book also offers unique insights in easy to reead nonpedantic manner.
This book should be part of the curriculum for all nurses, social workers,lawyers, physicians, counselors, psychologists, philosphers, art students, communication and media students.
