Product Description
Use this cable adapter to connect your Mac with a Mini DisplayPort video output port to an external monitor, TV, projector or other display device with HDMI input. Plug the Mini DisplayPort end into your Mac, and connect the HDMI end to an HDMI (male to male) cable, then plug the cable into your HDMI input input jack. ** PLEASE NOTE: The Mini DisplayPort is only found on newer models of Macs - You MUST check what port type you have before purchase. Mini DisplayPort does not support audio out and will not transmit sound. **
Helpful Notes: This device is intended to function more as an adapter than as a cable, meaning its short length WILL NOT reach from your Mac to the monitor. It will need to be used with an HDMI cable (sold separately).
Highest resolution supported: 1080p.

The adapter is a fast and easy way to connect any 2009/2010 Macbook Pro to any HDMI equipped Monitor or TV. You cant get audio from the cable but that is not the adapters fault. Apple doesn't allow audio through the mini display port. If Apple adds the feature in future Macs, your all set.
Update-if you have a new Macbook Pro manufactured after April 2010 it can carry audio over the mini display port which eliminates the need for separate audio cables

The technical specs for this product state that is does not transmit audio. However, it seems to depend on your computer. I am using a white Unibody MacBook Model 7,1. I get sound on every TV in the house. I did have to change the sound output in my System Preferences, but this adapter works great. I have had it since the end of November.
