A cardinal rule to apply when looking for good legal self-help books is to choose those that don't pretend that the law is simple. This new dictionary's preface explains the complicated and changing nature of the law. Its pages of definitions and explanations take pains to illuminate the vagaries of consumer law in language and style that is discerning and meticulous. Krohn accomplishes encyclopedic treatment of the laws, the jargon, the key concepts, significant individuals, and the history. The entry on credit cards, for example, traces the evolution of their use, explains the kinds of agreements that are operative when one uses a card and reviews the legislation that governs them. Court cases are fully cited and bolded references within an entry indicate the item is treated fully elsewhere. Highly recommended.
