5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-read for Parents!, June 16, 2008
By
This review is from: The Consumer Reports Guide to Childproofing & Safety: Tips to Protect your Baby and Child from Injury at Home and on the Go (Paperback)
Every parent should read this comprehensive, easy-to-read and understand guide to child safety at home, outdoors, and in the car. There is an enormous amount of information so I suggest parents, especially new parents, do a quick read to learn about hazards in familiar surroundings and what parents can do to prevent injury. Then when you are ready to buy a bicycle and helmet carefully re-read that section in the chapter, "On the Go" which also covers strollers, skates, and how to be a safe pedestrian. This book is so comprehensive I could only come up with one omission: under food safety I would have added food spoilage and hazards like bacterial contamination of purchased food urging parents to keep abreast of food recalls and warnings. Might a new parent feel overwhelmed thinking about all the possible dangers in their child's world? Maybe, but better safe than sorry. Plus the book will help a parent develop a "safety reflex" so you automatically turn in the pot handle even though there are no toddlers around. Plus you will be modeling that safety reflex for your kids which will help keep your future grandchildren safe.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fine for what it is, November 29, 2008
This review is from: The Consumer Reports Guide to Childproofing & Safety: Tips to Protect your Baby and Child from Injury at Home and on the Go (Paperback)
Do you have a subscription to Consumer Reports online? Then you can skip this book and just surf for the latest reviews. Otherwise, this is a fine little book to prepare you on what to look for, what questions to ask. It's actually a little thin on specific recommendations -- not every product has a review per se -- and be forewarned: there are no recommendations on car seats, as they are re-evaluating their safety criteria on car seats/crash worthiness. You may be just as well off getting the recommended list from your registry at Babies-R-Us or Target or wherever, and looking at the online customer reviews of the products.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great addition to any new parents library!, October 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is written by one of the most trusted names in the Pro-Consumer field: Consumer Reports. CR will test everything and give you an honest review, that is why I decided to purchase this book, since I'm a new father and wanted to provide the safest environment to my baby. This book gives you very good tips to protect your child anywhere and everywhere. Some of the details may apply to your home, some might not, but in summary, you will find everything you need to keep your little one away from known dangers, and that is priceless. For the price, this book is a steal. I recommend it!
