FOR THE 80% WHO BELIEVE IN THE TRUTH,
By jsmith@early.com (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Contact Has Begun: The True Story of a Journalist's Encounter with Alien Beings (Paperback)
Bought & read it yesterday. Entralled by wishful thinking, yet appalled by the use of "truth". This journalist should have submitted his story to the rag publications - not to be in the category of "author". Noticed some blatant tricks of the novel trade, whereby names (when scrambled about) spell out clues to the meaning of the story or character: Gwantelmipsa can unscramble to "a wet sampling" or "I want sample". The first initial of each of the 11 aliens (on the committee)spells out "dark meeting" and the initials of all the committees (pg. 147) when put together, spells out "CIA species of hope" along with such words as "spaceship", and "spoof". Verdant/servant(?). Much wordplay to disclaim his event. Lots of unanswered questions and (in the face of an immense UFO community of people who HAVE lived through contact)a hard-to-believe slap-in-the-face response to his amazing event: "My life has not been transformed..." Food for thought: would "absolute intelligent" beings choose ONE journalist to write a very thin book to sit among the thousand of UFO books, in hopes that we get a global message? (Wouldn't they choose a group from around the globe to unitely undertake the "white paper"`project?)

Easy To Read & Interesting, But Fact or Fiction?,

This review is from: The Contact Has Begun: The True Story of a Journalist's Encounter with Alien Beings (Paperback)
If what is written in this book is true, I will wish I would have given this a five star rating. There are two things which give me a glimmer of hope that this may be true. The first is Mr. Krapf's solid background with the L.A. Times. People with solid track records usually don't flip out on us. The second is the fact that he has give us a timetable. We're going to know in a relatively short period of time whether Mr. Krapf had the most fantastic experience a human could ever have & planet Earth is in for quite a treat, or if he was having a very boring retirement & needed some attention. It doesn't make sense that he would interrupt his peaceful & well deserved retirement with the ridicule & shame of a charlatan! Nevertheless, I am still inclined to believe at this point in time that Mr. Krapf has engaged in deceit, or has become delusional. I sure hope I am wrong! If some prominent individuals in the near future start talking about a huge spaceship the other side of the moon housing a species who call themselves Verdants, I will, of course, be able to change my mind. It goes without saying that this story needs much corroboration! Even still, I recommend the book.

I read this book in July of 1999. I found Mr Krapf's account interesting and encouraging and I admire his courage in following through and writing this book. I thought he told his story in an honest, direct, and non-sensational way. Like many other readers, I sincerely hope this account is true. I don't believe he is perpetrating a hoax and I don't think he is crazy. Also, I hope we don't "flunk" as a species and get bound to this planet for who knows how long. I'm 42 years old and I would love to see major, peaceful changes occur on this planet. I am a psychologist and I have read extensively about the abduction experience because I believe something real is happening and I want to understand it's impact on people. I just read through all the other reviews. I suspect we will never know the whole complex truth about the various species visiting our planet from other worlds. Verdants don't seem to interfere with the work of other groups, so similar looking humanoid beings may be doing genetic research, or all kinds of things the Verdants don't feel responsible to address. This is only the very tip of the iceberg in terms of the information Mr. Krapf said would be released. I'm waiting, right along with the rest of you.

This review is from: The Contact Has Begun: The True Story of a Journalist's Encounter with Alien Beings (Paperback)
I really wanted to like this book. I bought it because it seemed to have a lot going for it. It was written by a reputable journalist, it had the endorsement of Louise Hay, and the story line seemed fascinating from the cover information. I am a very open minded person and have read extraterrestrial accounts that I would rate very high in credibility. I cannot, however, rate this book among them. The author's style does not form any type of emotional bond with the reader and there are so many statements in this book that are just odd. The ET's say that they have located Heaven. It has a physical location within the space of our 3 Dimensional Universe and has 12 pearly gates. One of their ships got stuck there once. They also claim the Roswell incident was real but that the military covered it up so completely that no one in the upper echelons of government ever found out about it, not even the President. Huh? This is a strange book that left me feelin! ! g strange. If you want to read an excellent account of extraterrestrial communication I recommend the beautiful, powerful, and very credible SONGS OF THE ARCTURIANS by Patricia Pereira. It has everything that this book tried to be.

This review is from: The Contact Has Begun: The True Story of a Journalist's Encounter with Alien Beings (Paperback)
This book is enjoying reading but the author sounds like a child speaking or it's experiences. also there are some silly chapters in the book, like the female allien making sexually passes at the author, and the alliens having english names for the abductee.Or the tales of how much he liked allien ice cream and every thing was a heaven like state.there was also to many unbelivable details in the book, about the # of allien speices in the universe etc. ect. good book for a young person looking for a comic book.

A regrettable counterfeit.,

This review is from: The Contact Has Begun: The True Story of a Journalist's Encounter with Alien Beings (Paperback)
These beings named after a French version of "Greenish" knows everything about humans thoughts (59) except the author sexual life (102) and lack of conviction in God (124)! Will 600 square mile of Arizona desert (118) be converted into a green grassland overnight in demonstration of superior power? What about the crop circles? Do they demonstrate anything the grassland would do any better. Eight hundred world leaders have been taken aboard their ships and none of them had a remembrance of this event, only the author remembers his own and admits that it could be only that. The selected human leaders stand ready to help although we have been previously informed that people with impeccable credentials are not abducted for fear that the populace may believe their experiences, should they talk. There is a typical flavor of disinformation about the story: Multiple abduction stories are copycat. The UFO phenomenon is kept secret to avoid a panic "Orson Wells" style. No doubt that our government is embarassed to have to tell the world that their predecessors have been lying for half a century and they are scared that once the genie gets out of the bottle, the rascals are going to be thrown out. A book such as this one may alert some people of what is going on in our skies while at the same time offering a story that can be easily rejected as crap, just in case the public buys-in with too much fervor. This regurgitation of key information provided in many other books offered on this site is detrimental to the enhancement of truth. Author lost me when a lady alien disrobed before him and asked him if he wanted a piece of it (15).

This review is from: The Contact Has Begun: The True Story of a Journalist's Encounter with Alien Beings (Paperback)
This is a plodding, pedestrian, banal account of the author's supposedly true UFO contact experience. The story lacks wit, humor, charm and imagination. IMO it never happened and the author thought to have a laugh at the expense of people who did believe in UFOs, and make some money and pass his retirement time. The spelling is good.

The only verifiable truth - this is a poorly written book.,

This review is from: The Contact Has Begun: The True Story of a Journalist's Encounter with Alien Beings (Paperback)
Yet, it is intriguing because it breaks the mold - the author, Phillip Krapf, is told that the era of secret experimental abductions is over. Now, ET WANTS us to believe! Krapf spent many hours in conference with the "Verdants", we are told, and was given a photographic memory for a few weeks to recall his time among them, specifically to write this book. Yet he keeps most of the good information to himself. For example, we are led to believe he used his enhanced memory to copy a list of famous earthlings selected by the Verdants as "Ambassadors." Yet, he divulges no names. Why not? Will they scrap their carefully laid plans if he tells all? To whom does he owe a greater loyalty - his fellow humans, or a race who abducted him against his will, who admit to thousands of other abductions and who are using him to serve their own unknown ends? Come on Phillip, spill ALL the beans. If they want us to believe they're the benevolent race they coaxed you into telling us they are, then name names. Put these "Ambassadors" on the spot, 'cause right now you're the only one on the spot. Or maybe the Verdants are not the real con artists at work here...

This book would have been OK as a lightweight piece of fiction. As a book on the subject of UFO's I wish there were a 'no star' rating for this. Krapf introduces an alien race called Verdants who, among other things will instantly turn a 60 square mile desert area of the Southwest into a verdant plain, where they will build a city, which will function as an Intergalactic capital for the Earth zone.Among the achievements of this race is finding Heaven and the "Father" in his heavenly kingdom, and, guess what? there are twelve pearly gates leading into this kingdom. This book deserves a 5* rating for infantile balderdash !!

He should have researched the real thing more first,

This review is from: The Contact Has Begun: The True Story of a Journalist's Encounter with Alien Beings (Paperback)
This book would have been more believable had the author bothered to first check into more serious and credible books on the subject before composing this. As a person who has studied the subject my whole life (though I'm just 25) there were plenty of sore thumbs that gave this story away for what it is, a story. The ironic thing is that perhaps more people in the mainstream will now give at least a moment of thought to this very real and important issue, but it is also unfortunate because it could be damaging to the authentic individuals exploring this subject. My mom pointed out that the author's name is likely a pen name, and you can tell for yourself what it sounds like. I would wait to buy the book until the "new city" appears in the desert. Jesse
