I have studied metaphysics for over 20 years and during that time I have already developed a connection and relationship with my own spirit guide.

I love Sylvia Browne and her work, so when I saw this book in a bookstore one day, I was excited to see what she had to say on the subject and to see if there was anything new I could learn from her.

After reading the other reviews, I felt sorry for the people who spent money on this book. Just from what I read in the bookstore, I could tell this book did not offer anything practical on how to develop a relationship with one's spirit guide(s), something I felt the people reviewing this book were seeking.

Others remarked that this book was life-changing and one of Sylvia's best -to-date, which I thought was wonderful for them, but surprising. While I found Sylvia's book interesting and I enjoyed getting to know more of her story, it seemed to be merely an autobiographical account of Sylvia's relationship with her own spirit guides, with very little to assist others (including the text I read from the CD) in developing such a relationship (thus the title of my review).

The book "Opening to Channel: How To Connect With Your Guide", written by Sanaya Roman and Duane Packer, seemed more like a handbook to connecting with your guide and was very effective for me. I highly recommend this book, as I think it offers more of what people are looking for when they buy Sylvia's book. It includes exercises/meditations that helped me to be open and receptive to my guides and I had brilliant results.

Although the book's title, "Opening to Channel" might spark an automatic response in most people, the book helped me to distinguish that I am a conscious channel and I am aware of all the information my guide is giving me, versus going completely unconscious as most channels are perceived. I am able to connect and when I do readings for others, they are very much like Jon Edwards or Sylvia Browne in that I am fully awake and alert to what I am telling people.

Opening to Channel by Sanaya Roman and Duane Packer:

Great book...and it is probably what you are looking for. I owned it, read it, used it, loved it, lost it during a move, missed it, bought it again, used it again, loved it again, and I read it once every couple of years or so.

This is a book that gives you a technique to
contact your Spirit Guide. It is A technique
and like all techniques you have to use it.
It is a little like lifting weights. If the
weights sit on the floor, gathering dust,
you are not going to get strong. If you lift
them only once and give up, you are not going
to get strong. You have to lift them regularly.
You are going to have to work
Sylvia Browne's technique until it works.
As usual, Sylvia Browne
explains clearly what to do and why you do it.
If you are not going to make an effort, then
don't buy the book, but if you want to do
something spiritual for yourself, this is a
good book with good techniques to help you
do it.

I have read everthing Sylvia Browne has written and found the CD included in this book to be extremly helpful.It is imposible to meditate while you read,so the CD was an excellent tool. Even thought the book is short it holds the key to open the door to meeting a very special sprit that is yours alone.I have meet my guide,Marcia,by folloing along with the CD and it was an experience that I can only compare with the birth of my childern.I know that anyone who wants to do it can.You must let yourself be clear in your mind and open to the experience.I promise it is worth the effort.Sylvia has made it easy and very possible and I thank her for it.Give it a try and you will not be disappointed!

I have read all of Sylvia's works, she does not let up or cut corners. This is truly an entertaining author, but if truth could be understood as reality in application of her teachings that would be the benefit of this book. After reading this and making the step to contact, I have no doubts there are in fact guides. This is one of the most enlightening books I've had the pleasure to really get into and study as well. Be prepared to make a huge step if you decide to follow through with Sylvia's instructions. I strongly suggest reading Karl Maddox to further understand how to contact your "Guardian" and guide.

At first, I was a bit of a skeptic about doing the meditation from the cd that came with the book. After listening to the first part of the cd, and reading the book in one day, I was ready to light some candles and get into some serious meditation hoping to contact my guide. Nothing clearly magical happened to me when I was visiting the other side during my meditation, because I thought I was imagining things and not able to embrace what was coming through to me.
Anyways, the first session, I still didn't see my guide clearly, and I had no idea what his her name was. I just knew he/she was there. When I was in the room where the floor and curtains were supposed to be very pink, I couldn't see a lot of vivid pink. It was blurred. So I guessed I have yet to repete the process many more times. So far I have done the meditation several times. The night after my first session, I actually heard very loud popping noise. It was 4am, and I was wide awaken by the popping noise that was obviously not made by anyone banging things. It was like it came out of nowhere, so I was freaked out at first. Then I realized that's what Sylvia said in her book about some of the ways a guide can show us that they are with us. That very moment, I said to the air, assuming my guide was listening,"Ok, I realized you have just made the popping noise, and I do acknowledge that you are here, but please don't make those noise again."
I didn't get much clarity in my second medition, but I think I was getting a better visual on my third try. Hopefully in few more sessions, I will be able to see my guide and hear his/her voice clearly. So that I can ask some questions and get some answers. I also think that maybe my guide still worry that I am afraid of him/her, and that I am not ready to receive full contact.
The book is very easy and a quick read, it's not as deep and intricate as Past Lives, Future Healings which I also bought, but I am not ready to do a regression yet. If you are curious and a believer, than it's worth giving this book a try, but don't do it just for fun.

My only complaint about this book was that it was not long enough! But, what it lacks in length, it more than makes up for in information. There are many exercises to help you meditate and talk to your spirit guide, as well as a powerful audio CD to aid in the process. The book also contains a question and answer session with Sylvia where she answers the most commonly asked questions about spirit guides. I have never been able to meditate, until now! I was able to do this with much success using the CD with the background music. I highly recommend this book and CD to anyone wishing to get in touch with their higher self. You will not be disappointed. To complete the process, I would also recommend "Angels and Spirit Guides: How to Call Upon Your Angles and Spirit Guides for Help" also by Sylvia Browne.

As a new fan of Sylvia's work, I have to admit I bought this book because of the meditation CD it comes with. The CD is wonderful and has brought me to discover who my Spirit Guide is. I am excited and in awe of getting to know her better. A must have if you are into challenings your spritual beliefs and learning about life.

Ok, so the book is short. The CD is totally worth it. Sylvia leads you in a visualization that allows you to meet your Spirit Guide if you are open to it. I have to say that I have NEVER felt such comfort and unconditional love as I did when I met Thomas, my Spirit Guide. Give yourself some time alone in a quiet place to listen to the CD and see what happens. I'm glad I did!

I admire Sylvia Browne. Reading her books and seeing her work helps the learning process. This book about contacting your spirit guide is more Sylvia's story about Francine, one of Sylvia's spirit guides. Very interesting, but not as personally informative as I'd have liked.
Everyone has a spirit guide - this book doesn't hook you up.

Sylvia did an excellent job providing info on guides and their duties. She pretty much covers everything you always wanted to know about your guide and more. If you are looking for a book that can answer questions about the lives that our spirit guides lead while operating between two worlds this is the book for you.
