Skimmed this and only saw one paragraph about vegetables -- the rest is flowers and regular plants. If those are what you're interested in growing, it's probably a good book, but vegetables seem to be a pretty significant omission to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Very Best Container Garden Book on the Market, February 26, 2008

This review is from: Easy Container Gardens (Pamela Crawford's Container Gardening, Vol.2) (Paperback)
Bravo Pamela Crawford, you have done it again by giving us yet another brilliant book on gardening. Easy Container Gardens is the step by step instructions of not only putting together a container garden, but also explains just how pick out the right plants for that perfect container. She not only covers the basics, like container (color, size and shape) but also covers pruning, fertilizing, watering, insects, troubleshooting, the lifespan we can expect from the garden, where and how to display the new garden and so much more.

With today's working Moms, container gardening is now the way to go, but getting headed in the right direction to have it work for you is another. Ms. Crawford has covered all the angles and made this task a simple, effortless and a fun thing to do.

There are many container gardening books on the market today (I know, because I probably have read every one of them) this one is "head and shoulder" over them all, with the exception of Ms. Crawford's Container Gardens for Florida which is an excellent reference book. With Easy Container Gardens tucked tightly under your arm, you are ready to head off to the local pottery store to shop for that ideal container. When that is accomplished it is off to the local nursery for the soil and plants. With all this in hand it is time to head home and start creating that dazzling container garden that you have been dreaming about. When people ask where you purchased the lovely container garden, you can say with pride, "it was nothing, I did it myself" and said with a big smile of accomplishment on your part and some help from Pamela Crawford's Easy Container Gardens book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Visual walk through container gardens, March 12, 2008

This review is from: Easy Container Gardens (Pamela Crawford's Container Gardening, Vol.2) (Paperback)
Living in Georgia and loving gardening and I am transitioning into container gardening !
"Easy Container Gardens" explain, educate and walk you through textures, colors, and color combinations of plants to recipes of success for containers. My reaction to the cover photo is "I can do that," showing complimentary plant blooms. There is a lengthy chapter on container basics. And another chapter on "Best Container Plants" sums up the Blue ribbon winners and container successes. The color photos are just beautiful and an inspiration to be creative with plants.

This book is great. When I use a garden book, I like photos and this one is loaded with them. It is also simple to follow and has great advice for new container gardeners or veterans. I adapted some of the ideas to a garden bed as well and they look great.

This review is from: Easy Container Gardens (Pamela Crawford's Container Gardening, Vol.2) (Paperback)
Wow! Pamela did it again! I already owned another book by Pamela so when I saw Easy Container Gardens on a friend's coffee table I just had to take a look. Once I got into the book I didn't want to put it down, even for the supper call! I had to have my own copy. I love the quote on the front, "For anyone who has ever killed a plant!" She might as well add my name to that list. Pamela's books are always so helpful with directions, pictures (wow, what pictures), and suggestions for keeping your plants among the living. Easy Container Gardens is written so that it is easy to read with lots of step by step directions that will make you look like a pro. I feel that Pamela has a personal connection with every living thing by the way she knows her stuff. I highly recommend this book to those who garden, those who want to garden, or those who just like to look at beautiful pictures of gardens. Go get your own copy. You'll be glad you did!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great inspiration and information, March 26, 2009

While I try to be creative and come up with original ideas, this book provided lots of inspiration for mixing and matching. There was also a glossary in the back for more plant info. I like that she separates out blue ribbon and red ribbon combos, based on how much maintenance is required, and susceptibility to pests. This book also introduced me to side-planting, which makes my flower box look even fuller! While this book may not be enough for a pro, it's perfect for beginners and any hobbyist.

I very much enjoyed this book. I do a lot of containers and this book gave great tips on plants that do well in containers. The containers the author uses are much bigger than mine, but the concepts are the same, I just use fewer plants. This book is a keeper, and one I will refer to time and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this book, July 26, 2009
This review is from: Easy Container Gardens (Pamela Crawford's Container Gardening, Vol.2) (Paperback)
This book is full of beautiful photographs and practical advice. The author talks about the many types of pots, the best potting mix (not potting soil!) and the best fertilizer (Dynamite), and most of all the best plants.Having killed over 3000 plants herself, the author knows the best ones for success. She gives the pros and cons of over 150 plants and awards the best 40 or so "Blue Ribbon" status. Some of these plants are from the ground cover section of the nursery such as Sedum Angelina and others from the houseplant section such as Croton and this makes for more interesting pots.I recommend this book for anyone who likes to have a few pots around the patio and would want them to be both beautiful and fuss free.
