Good Things DO Come In Small Packages, April 7, 2008
This review is from: Containers: 40 inspirational ideas for transforming your outside space with container gardening, from window boxes to patio tubs and from spring flowers to a port (Paperback)
When the package arrived in the mail, I was surprised at how small it was (I didn't read the publisher information). Quite honestly, when I placed the order I didn't know what to expect when the description stated that this was 'boxed'. This is a soft plastic portfolio that unsnaps to reveal 40 individual cards. Various types of container gardening are featured such as patio tubs and window boxes. There's even a water garden and a kitchen herb garden. The photos are absolutely beautiful, showing lovely plant combinations, both green and floral. On the reverse of each card is all the information needed to plant what is shown in the pictures. The author gives you examples on how to use containers to enhance the the plantings. It gives you the detailed names of the plants, so you know exactly what to go shopping for. It then goes on to give you planting information and how to care for what was planted. Suggestions are given for planting variations. Finally, it gives you some gardener's tips such as when to pick lavender flowers for drying. The information is brief but thorough. It is clearly targeted for beginners, though every gardener will find something here. A big plus is that you can carry this with you anywhere. I will be using this a lot, and when winter comes (provided that this one finally goes away). I will use it to dream by and plan for next spring. This is a charming little book.
