5.0 out of 5 stars dogs like cold water in summer :)
We loved our waterdog, and so did our dogs - it didn't take long at all for them to figure out how to trigger the unit to dispense water, and it was nice cold water straight from the faucet. Our only mistake was leaving it on the faucet in the winter. It got too cold, cracked one of the pieces and started leaking. However their customer service was great, and they sent...

1.0 out of 5 stars this device does not last
This unit works great for 2-3 months, but then it fails.
I have had very frustrating experience with this device for I bought 5 units so far since it came out on market.
Everytime, the unit stopped functioning(or water kept on coming out without anything present). Although it broke everytime, I kept on buying a new one because my dogs love this. But now, I...

4.0 out of 5 stars Waterdog is pretty good, but....., July 22, 2007
I like the water dog, but I know not to use it as the only source of my dogs water. Out of the blue , twice it has not worked. My dog is pushing into it and forcing it face down when it is not working, so then if it starts working, the water is in a odd position, I have only had it happen twice, but that is twice in a 3 week period, but for the most part it is great, it did not cure me having to provide a fresh bowl of water each day.

It only took 1 use for my dog to learn how to use it, so that was nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta love it !, August 22, 2007

I purchased one of these last year for my german sherpard and I absolutely love it! I have it connected on my front porch.
My dog was trained easily to use it and knows exactly where to go when thirsty.
The only thing I do is every day I wave my hand in front of it to activate it to run the water from sitting in the line all night. So I get fresh cold water every time for my buddy.

1.0 out of 5 stars good concept, but not reliable, December 19, 2006
This unit is great when it works, but it stops woking so easily and so soon. First, you need to have the right water pressure to have this device work properly(I had to install an water pressure regulator in between), and when the weather gets hot in the summer, the valve often stops working(I had to drain the water each time). And the most of all, the unit starts malfunctioning in less than 6 months on average. Beacuse my dogs love to drink out of faucet, I had been replacing the waterdog several times even though the unit did not last long. At this point, I am giving up on this not-so-reliable device.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea But Poorly Design, September 10, 2008
This review is from: Contech 300000408 WaterDog Automatic Outdoor Pet Drinking Fountain (Kitchen)
We bought ours from Pet Smart. It is a really great idea and worked well for the first 3 weeks, then water began leaking through the battery compartment. Luckily, our dog did not get sick from the rusty overflow of water! I will wait until the design has been improved to buy another one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great idea but won't last, July 8, 2008
My dog was so happy with the fountain, but it didn't last for long. After about a month I had to replace it, and now that won't work any longer either, even though it is less then a month old. I don't have the budget to buy a new one for nearly $75.00 every month, so I am looking for something else. I still don't know what went wrong; it simply stopped working and no battery change helped.

For the last 4 years I have had to purchase a new unit- they last for the 3 months of summer and then they burn out! My dogs love them so I have purchased a new one each year at their request......Why don't they make a product that works? Why isn't there any competition for this type of product? VERY DISAPPOINTED

4.0 out of 5 stars I have had no problems and am now buying a second one, June 3, 2008
By
I was surprised to read the only other review citing that the water dog was unreliable. I bought one last year to use at my lake house and the dogs love it. Worked great all last summer, I stored it for the winter and hooked it back up and it's continued to work with no problems. I think I have only had to change the batteries once. I have been meaning to buy a second one for my in-town house and am just now getting around to ordering it. I keep a bowl under the spout on the ground to catch the excess water so the dogs always have a fresh supply. Works great for me so far, I'll keep you posted if I have any problems with the new one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest invention ever!, April 2, 2011
This review is from: Contech 300000408 WaterDog Automatic Outdoor Pet Drinking Fountain (Kitchen)
We have a large dog and have had our first and only Water Dog in operation since 2005.

We had to install a newer style exterior faucet on the house so it could seat properly initially, and we pull it in the house every time the temperature goes below 35 degrees. Needless to say, it is in most of the winter. However, we've had the same one in operation for 6 years, changing the batteries every Summer, and reinstalling it every Spring.

Our dog loves it and so do we. He's taught other dogs to use it as well. He figured out how to avoid the hot water in the pipes on hot days, by going up to it and letting it run for a minute before he takes a drink. Before we got the Water Dog, he would tip his bowl over, or it would get full of dirt and mud. This removes the bowl from being a play toy, and assures him of fresh, cool, available water everytime he wants it. He gets excited every Spring when it goes back up. It is starting to give us problems this year, by not always sensing his presence, but we believe if we pull the sensor screens and clean them, it might solve the problem. If not, we will definitely buy another one.
