I used this to keep my dog (a 5lbs chihuahua) from going upstairs, and it works wonderfully. After only a few weeks (and a couple static shocks) i no longer need to keep the mat at the foot of the stairs- he now knows just to stay away from them.

I ordered this mat for my parents as a replacement when their first mat with the paw shaped controller stopped working after several years of use. Upon reading the reviews of both the old and newer revised version of this mat, I ordered this new version and my parents are very impressed with the easier use of the controller and how much more effective this mat is at keeping their cat from scratching at the bedroom door at night.

In comparison, with the older version (paw shaped controller), the cat behaved as though it was a joke... with minimal but satisfactory effectiveness. Now, with the new mat which has 3 power settings and a plug for an A/C adapter, the first morning my parents opened the bedroom door, the cat was the farthest from the mat he'd ever been and wouldn't come near the doorway until my parents physically moved the mat out of the way.

This is a great training tool, for both dogs and cats.I am the director for a aminial group. so have lots of pets comming in.. thanks for such a great product..

This mat works perfectly, but it does seem though that my dog has figured out that when the mat isnt there physically, she knows that it wont shock her then so she goes back to doing what she was doing before. so the mat has to stay there permenantly looks like.

Absolutely awesome....I have a multiple household of cats and they were peeing on my countertop in the kitchen. First day I used the scat mat and they walked on it...they have not even gone near the counter since....that has been weeks now...I love it and the price was worth it. I will be buying more in the future for other areas of my house.

My girlfriends 2 beagles ruled the furniture and destroyed them. It took 2 days to figure out the new stuff was off limits. Hate to sound cruel but it was kinda comical, they would wait for someone to leave room or go outside and jump up and learned the hard way really fast. It doesn't hurt but does have a nice bite to it. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to claim back there furniture...worth every penny

I have three cats, and cats have minds of their own. I also have a job that keeps me away from home for the majority of the time. I can discipline the animals when I'm at home and catch them doing things I don't approve of (jumping on the couch or counters), but when I'm at work, I'm sure they're having a ball. The Scat Mat changes all of that. Simply put the battery in, choose your setting, and place the mat in the desired place. It works so well that when my cats hear the warning 'clicking' noise, they take off away from it. So it keeps all of us happy. They're not on my counters or couch, and they're not mad at me for being the one to discipline them (since they don't think I'm to blame). And before someone jumps in to say that it's cruel, it's not. I would not have purchased it if I thought it was harmful. It's a very brief shock with little after-effect (yes, I touched it; as I said, if it was horribly strong, I wouldn't put my pets through that).

My cats were using my bathroom rug and foyer carpet as toilets causing me to have to replace carpet. I bought 2 scatmats and the problem was solved. When Skeeter stepped on the mat it jolted her enough to make her jump straight up and skidaddle out of there. The cats will not go anywhere near the mats, but if you pick the mats up, thinking the cats will remember to NOT go in the forbidden area, think again. All they know is "Mat Bad" and if mat not there they return. As long as you keep the mat down and charged you're fine. Kitty, the other one, realized the battery in the mat had died so he started walking on it to get to the bathroom. I had to put a new battery in the mat to keep him out. It also worked initially on the kitchen counter, but when I removed the mat they were back on the counter. This mat works great but is misleading; you HAVE to keep it down and charged to be effective. Cats don't know boundries, they know shocking mat. The fun part is if you walk on it barefoot you get a little jolt which makes you laugh. My recommendation...buy 1 and a fake plastic strip and alternate them. Will work just the same and keep your pet confused.

Great product! This keeps our cat where we don't want her from going. The 9 volt battery lasts a long time and it has 3 setting so we don't have to electrocute her when she touches it. Great for furniture, shelves, door ways etc.

I bought this with the hope that we could get our cat to stay off of our guest bed. She had urinated on it a few times and we had to keep that room closed off. When we found out we were expecting a baby, that room would become the baby's room. Originally, we planned to get rid of the bed but later decided against it. It's a really nice bed that we hated to part with. Knowing we would have to leave the door open once the baby was here, I had to find some way to at least keep her off of the bed. I reasearched different products and decided to try this one.

When we got it, my husband tested it. He said it was not painful but it was enough to "scare" you. So, we set it up on the bed and left the door open. I immediately went in the next room to play on my computer. Not 5 minutes later, I see the cat walk past my door headed towards the spare bedroom. I quietly got up to see if she went in there and she had. She was looking up at the bed but then realized I was watching, so she turned and stared at me. I knew she wouldn't do anything with me there, so I went back to the computer. A minute or so later, I hear this scratching sound followed by the cat racing down the hall as if something had spooked her.

The problem with this device is its size. It is no where near big enough to cover the full length or width of the bed, which is a queen size. I had to place boxes and laundry baskets around the edges where the mat didn't cover, so that she could not avoid the mat by jumping on either side of it. I was worried she would figure this out and realize that only that section of bed was unpleasant to be on. So, hoping to trick her, I moved things around a bit so that the mat was covering a different section of the bed. Again, I heard the scratching followed by the cat running out and down the hall, so I know she tried it again. I think I moved the mat a third time and she tried it again. After that, I believe she's left the bed alone. I will probably use this on my counter tops, as well, because she likes to jump up there. At any rate, the mat has done its job and I'm pleased with it.
