Doesn't stop the chipmunks,

This review is from: Contech SquirrelStop Automatic Spinning Squirrel Deterrent (Misc.)
I've had the SquirrelStop since February. It took some adjustment to get it to work. For example, I initially had a feeder that had a little tray at the bottom. The squirrels quickly figured out that if they set the feeder spinning, food would fly off of the tray so they could still eat. I changed feeders to one that didn't have a tray, but the perch style meant that the squirrels were able to hold on to the post with their back feet and cling onto the perch with one paw, thus stopping it from spinning while they fed. I finally got a feeder that they can't foil and it has worked great every since. It has been weeks since I've seen a squirrel even bother trying. On the other hand, in the absence of squirrel competition, little chipmunks have taken their place and they are too light to set off the spinning. Fortunately, they don't eat nearly as much as squirrels so I've decided to let that go.

"Until Something Better Comes Along",
This review is from: Contech SquirrelStop Automatic Spinning Squirrel Deterrent (Misc.)
Second SquirrelStop purchased through Amazon. Depending on the construction of the feeder, I have finished the battle of wits with these 'rodents'. 90% of the time this product will deliver its objective. That is to toss the furry into space. "They" did tend to cling to the feeder constructed of softer material such as wood. Maybe they could develop a model with a supercharge takeoff that kicks in when this is detected.emc

Useless,

Squirrels are very intelligent. If you have your feeder suspended on a pole, even if you installed the pole in the middle of nowhere, the squirrels can climb on the pole and put their weight on it. It makes the SquirrelStop spin and sends all the bird seeds to the ground. They'll eat on the ground! Birds don't like squirrels and you won't see a bird when there are 3 of them eating around the pole. In a tree? Same thing...It is completely useless because it scares the squirrels for a day or two and they finally find a way to get the seeds. Very expensive product for a deceiving result. I removed that "3 D batteries " spinner and I feed finches and hummingbirds now. Squirrels don't like their food. I really don't recommend that product. If you want to laugh, watch the video on the homepage of the manufacturer because you won't when you'll receive your credit card statement.
