Doesn't stop the chipmunks,
By
This review is from: Contech SquirrelStop Automatic Spinning Squirrel Deterrent (Misc.)
I've had the SquirrelStop since February. It took some adjustment to get it to work. For example, I initially had a feeder that had a little tray at the bottom. The squirrels quickly figured out that if they set the feeder spinning, food would fly off of the tray so they could still eat. I changed feeders to one that didn't have a tray, but the perch style meant that the squirrels were able to hold on to the post with their back feet and cling onto the perch with one paw, thus stopping it from spinning while they fed. I finally got a feeder that they can't foil and it has worked great every since. It has been weeks since I've seen a squirrel even bother trying. On the other hand, in the absence of squirrel competition, little chipmunks have taken their place and they are too light to set off the spinning. Fortunately, they don't eat nearly as much as squirrels so I've decided to let that go.

"Until Something Better Comes Along",
This review is from: Contech SquirrelStop Automatic Spinning Squirrel Deterrent (Misc.)
Second SquirrelStop purchased through Amazon. Depending on the construction of the feeder, I have finished the battle of wits with these 'rodents'. 90% of the time this product will deliver its objective. That is to toss the furry into space. "They" did tend to cling to the feeder constructed of softer material such as wood. Maybe they could develop a model with a supercharge takeoff that kicks in when this is detected.

Squirrels are very intelligent. If you have your feeder suspended on a pole, even if you installed the pole in the middle of nowhere, the squirrels can climb on the pole and put their weight on it. It makes the SquirrelStop spin and sends all the bird seeds to the ground. They'll eat on the ground! Birds don't like squirrels and you won't see a bird when there are 3 of them eating around the pole. In a tree? Same thing...It is completely useless because it scares the squirrels for a day or two and they finally find a way to get the seeds. Very expensive product for a deceiving result. I removed that "3 D batteries " spinner and I feed finches and hummingbirds now. Squirrels don't like their food. I really don't recommend that product. If you want to laugh, watch the video on the homepage of the manufacturer because you won't when you'll receive your credit card statement.

First I will say the ad,(or should I say the box) is deceiving. It shows the unit with a feeder, and for the price I was expecting one...The squirrels still get food. As they jump up and get on,there is a delay for the unit to start spinning...But I must say Its a belly laugh watching them try..over and over Lots of fun anyway......Richard

Not So SquirrelStop,

First of all, the picture of this item is a little misleading. I thought I was getting a feeder as well as the dome above it. Secondly, it didn't prove to be squirrel-proof. The squirrels just had to stretch down from above the dome and knock the feeder off the dome. My husband made some needed modifications to this item to outsmart the squirrels.

Squirrel stop,
This review is from: Contech SquirrelStop Automatic Spinning Squirrel Deterrent (Misc.)
The Squirrel stop is fantastic. The squirrels land on the feeder and then go flying off. The only problem is, instead of learning to stay away from the feeders, our squirrels seem to enjoy "riding" on the feeders.

Have had it a couple of months now and have never seen it not do it's job. Even when the squirrel hangs on. I have seen them hang on for 3 times until they can take it no more. Great fun for the kids to watch. The only problem is that the squirrels tend to not try anymore.

Really Works,

This really works in our backyard in suburban Maryland. Our tube feeder hangs on a pole that is between two trees. After putting a cone baffle on the pole, the squirrels just jumped from the trees to the feeder pole. With this device, the squirrels reach for the feeder from the pole but then it starts spinning. They quickly gave up and stopped making any effort after a few days.
Pricey, but quite effective. Requires 2 D-cell batteries.

Not only does it do the job it is meant to do but it also looks pretty cool! Squirrels around here are in for some shocks in the coming weeks! Looking forward to that

This is my second Squirrel Stop. They are cute but pesty critters and they would steal all the bird food if they could. It is amusing to see them jump on the bird feeder, then see the feeder start to spin. They cling for a moment and then drop to the ground and get out of that area. I feed the birds -- and the squirrels are welcome to any feed that spills on the ground but one would go bankrupt if we fed the squirrels, also. My only complaint is that the first Squirrel Stop lasted a little less than a year. I purchased both Squirrel Stops at Amazon.
