Copland at his best,

I bought this CD because I didn't know Copland's EMBLEMS. And what a delightful surprise! I will rate it among his best and certainly most personal compositions. The year is 1964 and you can feel the troubled times ahead - Amacing grace here is set in a almost tragic light - and the powerful cords almost knock you out in the impressive finale. The John Adams work is also good music, Hindemith a classic and Morten Lauridzen's composition very touching music indeed. But to me - EMBLEMS made my day. When will we see new rcordings of Copland's CONNOTATIONS, INSCAPE, MUSIC FOR A GREAT CITY, STATEMENTS? Hopefully soon. It is about time to reevaluate Aaron Copland! And by the way - the playing on this CD is outstanding.

Quite decent interpretations, & the recording lets one hear ALL of what's going on in the Hindemithian counterpoint.
