first - the cover seems to have changed - mine has a pair of wire wrapped earrings -secondly, several of the pieces show have been published elsewhere, in magazines . when I buy a hardbound book, I'm assuming it's going to be all new material - or that the publishers will be honest enough to indicate that pieces in it are previously published.

Calling these designs "contemporary" is a bit of a stretch. A number of the projects are contemporary, but others are traditional or ancient-style wirework. That said, there are some beautiful projects in this book and they are beautifully photographed. However, there are very few illustrations and the instructions assume an intermediate level of ability. I think beginners would have a tough time with most of the projects in this book. I recommend Bead On A Wire: Making Handcrafted Wire and Beaded Jewelry.

There are many wonderful new styles of beads and new wire options available to display them, which is why CONTEMPORARY BEAD & WIRE JEWELRY is a top pick beyond the basic old-style jewelry-making guides on the market. Over forty projects take advantage of world influences and new bead and wire options, providing jewelry-making projects packed with color photos and a contemporary flare. Any library strong in jewelry-making guides will find this a unique, welcome addition.

This book contains the art of many different wire jewelry makers, and I consider that to be a plus, because that means there are a wide variety of projects, some easy and some difficult, and lots of inspiration. I've gotten more ideas from this book than any I have seen in a long time.

I have another of this authors books. Both are great and have good ideas and comprehensive instruction. Most of the designs use sterling silver wire. If you are looking to make cheap projects, maybe not fo you but if you are into quality and something with a diffence then get this one

This book has a wide variety of projects from quirky to elegant to (for my taste anyway) a little strange. If you're a beginner, you might want to know that there are no step by step instructions. Each project has a photograph and written instructions as well as a few (not for every project) illustrated guides. So, if you depend on step by step pictures, you'll want to go elsewhere. If you can make something by looking at it or reading brief instructions, this book may just be what you're looking for.

I was surprised to read the negative comments. I found this book to be not only beautifully photographed, but also to be chock full of excellent designs. Instructions were well-written and complete. Whether one labels the designs 'contemporary' or 'traditional' or even some other moniker, is insignificant. My general impression remains: This book is a delight and highly recommended.

I can't find words to describe how awful this book is!

It doesn't show complete pictures of the items.

Drawings of how most components should look, are not there.

Is this the way Lark publishes books?

I attempted making the Vortex Necklace (page 55) and fortunately I used copper. I have been making jewelry for several years and can usually figure something out. This book is hopeless!

Unfortunately, it is too late to return the book.

Although the pictures are great and some of the jewerly made me want to grab my pliers, the editors have abbreviated the directions to the point that they are totally useless. Very sad for the many talented people who contributed to this book. I actually purchased it then returned it to the store I bought it from. I felt I paid entirely too much money just to see a few pictures.
