Contemporary Criminal Law, Second Edition combines the traditional concepts and cases found in undergraduate texts with unique learning tools, resulting in an engaging, modern text that has enjoyed success with students and instructors nationwide. The text covers both traditional and cutting-edge topics, such as terrorism, computer crimes, and hate crimes, in a student-friendly way. Clear explanations of criminal law and defenses are complemented by provocative, well-edited cases followed by discussion questions to stimulate critical thinking and in-class discussion.

The Second Edition includes a number of new cases to illuminate important concepts such as the insanity defense and terrorism, many new learning features, and updates throughout, highlighting the most recent developments in criminal law. A more concise focus on domestic criminal law also characterizes this new edition. Best of all, this new edition continues to be significantly more affordable than most other texts for this course.

Editorial Reviews

"The text is the best Criminal Law text I have seen. Actually, it is the best text in any subject I have seen. It should serve as a model for textbook writing in all subjects taught at undergraduate institutions.

It is very well written, organized and researched. It is comprehensive without being wooden. There is a lot of variety of material so it remains interesting throughout the course. The companion resources are particularly helpful both for instructors and students."

(Jane Younglove 2010-04-22)

"It is by far the best text/casebook on the market geared to undergraduate students in a criminal law class. It is also the best bargain, and priced at least $50 less than other criminal law texts designed for undergraduate instruction. The cases are anything but boring; Professor Lippman has done a brilliant job in selecting cases that bring the material to life with real-world situations."
(Philip M. Stinson, Sr.)

"I feel the Lippman Contemporary Criminal Law text fills a unique niche among similar books in that it seems the most cutting-edge and current. It also lives up to its subtitle by bringing in the most controversial issues in the discipline. The cases are interesting and useful." (Jennifer K. Wesely)

"The major strengths of the text include a clear writing style, the inclusion of comprehension tools such as chapter summaries and “legal equations,” and most especially, the broad range of interesting and provocative cases." (Don Liddick 2010-04-22)

"This the best textbook for my teaching style because of its balanced use of text and cases. I intend to continue to use Lippman." (Russell Loving)

5.0 out of 5 stars Textbook for Criminal Law Class September 16, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Although this is the second edition and the class called for the third edition, there is so little difference it has not been a issue and the difference is unapparent.

The cases really help you understand the specifics and reasoning of criminal law. This was a required text for a class and I'm glad it was the book my professor decided on.
